I like you reference to the computer, hopefully electric cars will be out and ready for less public use in less than 10 years, though that is a little to optimistic, but I'm against drilling for more oil, and ethanol is a joke when it comes to saving the enviorment, as is "clean" coal

yep, but I had also in mind it's political implications, especially in light of exchange of ideas under the 'borders of n.k. and briza's declaration' thread when if the foregoing occurs, the west will give less credit to the azeri's -refer to the argument federate posted there concerning oil

also in the same idea of energy saving Toyota has launched a model called prius having two engines, one classical and the other electrical. both engines relay when the car is in use, and the general consumption is 5 l per 100 klm's

            Re: Lightning GT

The problem with electric cars is not merely that they are expensive to buy (at least to get one with any kind of power). They are also expensive to maintain. Replacement batteries for the weakest models is a MINIMUM of $9k. And let's set that aside. After all, as was mentioned, costs will eventually come down for this technology as everyone and there mother starts exploring it, perfecting it and creating it. There is a bigger concern.

The whole point of these electric cars is that they're "green", aka better for the environment. It is true that they are either extremely low, or 0 emissions cars. However, the total effect a car has on the environment does not solely reside in the tailpipe (or lack there of). You have to take into account the way they're built, and what it takes to make them. The process to gather the lead for these batteries, build them, and then dispose of them when their charging life is done is quite toxic on the environment, and anything but "green".

electric cars with batteries made from newly mined lead will release 60 times more lead than cars using leaded petrol

How's that for an inconvenient truth?

              Re: Lightning GT

tesla cars released a new model of a fully battery powered car which costs between usd 100k and 125k depending the options. it looks like a sport car like the lightening above with two places and the lifetme of the batteries is five years. it seems that prices have began to drop.
