  • remember our cute ErAZ

Whatever happened to ErAZ. I guess it's dead. To bad. Cute little vans.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about. Armenia had a auto factory during that Soviet times that manufactured a cute little van, called ErAZ (Erevaniski Avtomobilniy Zavod = Yerevan Automobile Factory) We were the only republic that had an auto factory outside of the main auto industry block of the Soveit Union.

Its a food van?? Food was actually driven in this van? Did they exist for private purchase? Did they exist outside of Armenia?

Sure, why not. Food, people, clothes, whatever. I'm not sure about the private pruchase. I'm pretty sure they were only used in USSR if they were used at all outside Armenia. I would think that it was probably exported to Georgia and Azerbaijan though.

from what ive heard these Eraz's would break down before they even left the factory. I read somewhere, the company still exists, they make like something around 50 cars a year if im correct nowadays, all for domestic use, there is no export. There should be a revitalization of Eraz and it can be the flagship Armenian auto brand, maybe make some other models and hopefully export, that would be pretty darn hot.

I don't know about recent models, but the older ones were in fact pretty sturdy. Many taxi vans in Armenia were ErAZ vans, so I've ridden probably in hundres of em.
