  • Star Trek star seeks son in Vancouver

The parents of missing Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig are in Vancouver, asking the public for help finding their son.

"We have a son ... presently missing, whose state of emotional health may not be very good," Walter Koenig told a news conference at Vancouver police headquarters Wednesday.

Original Star Trek actor Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov) and his wife Judy spoke with news media in Vancouver about their missing son Andrew.

"Anything you might see, any possibility of seeing this 41-year-old man with long hair, a great smile, it would be very much appreciated if you would get the word out."

Walter Koenig played Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek television series. The younger Koenig — missing in Vancouver since Feb. 14 — is also an actor, best known for playing Mike Seaver's friend Boner on the '80s sitcom Growing Pains.

"We think he's probably in a very depressed state," Judy Koenig said.

Koenig's family and friends are worried because they say he was despondent, and it is believed he sold off most of his possessions before leaving California on a trip to visit close friends in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Koenig had been staying with friends near Main Street and King Edward Avenue, but his last cellphone activity was logged on Feb. 16, near Stanley Park, according to police.

"Thank you to everyone who has proven that there is such civility here," Judy Koenig said. "He loves this city. We've felt at one with people here."

Andrew Koenig's friend Maggie Langrick told CBC News he never boarded his flight home to Los Angeles on Feb. 16th.

"We know that he didn't board his flight to Los Angeles. We assume that he's somewhere in the Vancouver area," said Langrick.

A visit to Stanley Park was bound to be part of Andrew Koenig's trip to Vancouver, said Langrick, and that's where she went to search for him on the weekend.

"Andrew is a nature lover. It's one of the things he loves most about Vancouver," she said.

"I went back to the places where I'd last been with him to look around just to, you know, feel closer to him," she said.

Koenig is Caucasian, about five feet five inches tall and 135 pounds, with long shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes, said police.

Police are asking anyone who sees Andrew Koenig (aka "Boner" from Growing Pains) to call 911.

    Sad but predictable news...

L.A. actor's body found in Vancouver

The parents of actor Andrew Koenig, who had a role 1980s sitcom Growing Pains, say his body was found Thursday in the day in Vancouver's Stanley Park.

Walter Koenig, the father of the 41-year-old Los Angeles native, said he received a call from a group of Andrew's friends who were checking out locations in the park that they knew Andrew liked and that they had found his body.

"I went to the site," a distraught Koenig told reporters near the site where the body was found. "My son took his own life.

"I want to say … what a great guy he was, a good human being. He was obviously in a lot of pain."

Vancouver police earlier issued a statement saying the discovery had been made about noon.

    Disappeared Feb. 14

The younger Koenig disappeared on Feb. 14 and is best known for his recurring role as Richard (Boner) Stabone in the popular television show.

He had suffered from depression and was reported to have stopped taking medication for the condition last year. He had flown to Montreal and Toronto before visiting friends in Vancouver and was booked to fly back to Los Angeles on Feb. 16. He did not show up for the flight.

The elder Koenig and his wife Judy flew to Vancouver from California this week to help search for their son.

On Wednesday, Walter Koenig told a news conference at the Vancouver Police Department that his son loved Vancouver and enjoyed visiting friends in the city.

Koenig, himself an actor who played the role of Russian crew member Pavel Chekov on the original Star Trek TV series, implored the public to look out for his son, mentioning Stanley Park as one of Andrew's favourite places.

He was actually a pretty good actor/character on that show. I used to watch that stuff everyday. News is sad.

I blame Valentine's Day. It should be removed from the Calendar.
