Unless seculars stage a revolution in Turkey, I highly doubt relations will go back to what they used to be.

Doesn't matter much if they do not go back to being as close as they once were. Fact remains that they still have ties, and even these strained ties are much closer than the diplomatic relations between Armenia and israel.

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy torpedo boats, on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War. The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and one civilian), wounded 170 crew members, and severely damaged the ship. At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.

This whole thing about Iranian cargo plane being forced down smells like bulldust. Israeli haraatz news site is the only one reporting it and both Iran and Turkey are denying it.

now they are reporting that there was a second Iranian cargo plane that was forced down which this time they found light arms, but no nuclear material.....nothing but propaganda against Iran, and people out there on other defence forums are buying into it.

The Ankara government has reportedly rejected a request by the UN to conduct inspections of Iranian cargos at customs checkpoints between Iran and Turkey.

Knowing turkey being the master of playing on 2 even more ropes at the same time, I’m pretty sure they have secretly inspected those planes and once they’ve found nothing they’ve announced that they refuse to inspect those planes. As if they have choices once they get the order from their puppeteers.

Both the Israeli and U.S. governments conducted inquiries and issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the identity of the USS Liberty. Some survivors, in addition to some U.S. diplomats and intelligence officials involved in the incident continue to dispute these official findings, saying the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty was not a mistake, and it remains "the only maritime incident in U.S. history where [U.S.] military forces were killed that was never investigated by the [U.S.] Congress."
