  • Kareem Abdul Jabbar: U.S. Dignitary

Officially named a U.S. Ambassador of Culture.

    Between childhood, boyhood,
    adolescence
    & manhood (maturity) there
should be sharp lines drawn w/
    Tests, deaths, feats, rites
    stories, songs & judgements

    - Morrison, Jim. Wilderness, vol. 1, p. 22

You mean Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, Jr.? I guess a Muslim sounding name makes him a Cultural Ambassador.

The designation of a black and a converted Islam to this position is great for the tolerance story that the americans need to project.

This seemed to have been popular during the U.S. vs. Communism years. Many African Americans changed their "slave" names to Muslim names influenced by the "Nation of Islam"
