There are many of you who seem to be able to balance patriotism with personal spirituality. And I am curious, because my spirituality is vanquished whenever I think nationalistically, whenever I try to distinguish myself as "different" from any other entity/people/thing, etc...
Could it be because I do not believe in the God as described in the bible? Because I rarely attend church? I feel like whenever I step into an Armenian Church during mass, I feel the religious ceremony brings some kind of spirituality to the table, but one that can only be shared between fellow Armenians, gathered together during the ritual, and perhaps our spiritual consciousness is extended to, aside from the Trinity, other Armenians who need our prayers, our support, or any group essentially speaking that our clergymen gives their blessings to.
Is this what Armenian Orthodox Christian spirituality is about? Although I like it in some sense, it does not suit my needs to understand my existence/experience as a human being, who does not believe that he was born out of original sin, believes that the bible makes more sense when you change the word God to love on every page, and love, being an act and feeling, not an object of worship.
Anyway, this is how I feel and I am wondering how you folks feel about your spirituality, where and how you engage in it. I'd also like to hear either your criticism or just regular responses to my reactions or confusion I described earlier with the kind of spirituality I experience in church.
