Anonymouse, it should be one of Armenia's objectives to also "maintain" Armenian culture and language in the diaspora. But what should we expect - they can't even look after communities in their own backyard (Tbilisi, Javakhk, Abkhazia). Maybe these communities aren't lucrative enough for them.

I can point out Armenian communities that have existed for more than 100 years with little assimilation occurring.

But the fact that outside of Armenia we can have such 50.50 statistics is itself enough for me to suggest that the diaspora entails greater risk than the homeland, and ultimately a liability for Armenia. Furthermore, you said "for more than 100 years". What about 200? What about 300? 100 years is at best a little above 1 generation. That does not prove anything. Long-term it is untenable. And Iran is an exception as it adheres to the strict Islamic lines of delineation between Christian, Muslim.

It's that simple.

Armenia's only objective cannot exceed its borders. It barely maintains itself and tries to get by as a landlocked country surrounded by marauders and mongrels, and it also has to have the added responsibility of maintaining the diaspora? That would be more of a detriment than a benefit. I don't know how that would work. What are you implying they should do?

Yet, it won't be any in the west, which is what most of us are referring to. All those schools and churches founded in the Diaspora, what was there goal, to keep Armenians outside of the homeland Armenian, now that we have any independent nation again, what is the point of trying to remain Armenian outside of Armenia? Sure it is noble, but wouldn't it be better for an Armenian who is concerned about maintaining his identity and those of his offspring to move to Armenia?

Forget the West - how many Armenians from countries like Russia or Ukraine want to leave everything behind and move to Armenia? Other than recent immigrants, not very many, I'm sure.

Yet, it won't be any in the west, which is what most of us are referring to. All those schools and churches founded in the Diaspora, what was there goal, to keep Armenians outside of the homeland Armenian, now that we have any independent nation again, what is the point of trying to remain Armenian outside of Armenia? Sure it is noble, but wouldn't it be better for an Armenian who is concerned about maintaining his identity and those of his offspring to move to Armenia?

Here, Armenian is not an Armenian domiciled in Armenia while holding RA citizenship (he probably doesn't have enough clams to buy a passport, ticket to Armenia and three years of living expenses - cuz if he did based on his representations, he'd be there already).

Is Armenian invested in Armenia in any manner, does he do business there, own property, etc.

I just wanted to thank all my virtual friends for their support. One knows who his/her friends are in times of need. But I already knew more-or-less who or what each and everyone of you are.

Incidentally, I'll be posting from Armenia for the next couple of months. After years of contemplating it I finally purchased a home in our homeland last year. I already have my Armenian passport and my socialakan apahovutyan kard as well. Yes, my first step to repatriation after a thousand years of exile! My little children are looking forward to the trip.
