What are the requirements to become a substitute teacher for public and private schools?

From the research I did, it looks like you need a BA degree to become a sub for public schools. From what I know about private schools - I'm not sure if this is only Armenian schools or all private schools - you need a certain number of units.

I was thinking of substitute teaching for middle school and high school levels, perferbaly at a public school. Can anybody help me with any info?

    For public schools...

you just need a Bachelor's degree for any field, depending on the nature of teacher shortage the school is experiencing to seek out subs.

Of course, it's a better fit if you're bachelor's degree is related to the subject you will be teaching, though this is often enough deliberately overlooked by the principal and the school board.

Private schools might have similar scenarios, but they don't need to consult a school board to apply their standards on the matter. For teaching in Armenian schools, it obviously helps to have gotten a bachelor's degree in an Armenian university, or to have completed an similarly advanced curriculum in Armenian studies abroad.

I am not sure if it's a requirement or not but in CA, you should also pass the CBEST. From what I understand though, it's not a big deal and just takes a little prep.

I work at Montessori private schools where you can be a teacher/sub by having 12 units of Child Development, but on the other hand every Montessori is diffrent.

Didn't you say full-time teachers at that school are on a salary? So by having 12 units and teaching full-time, these teachers are being put on a salary?

Also, what grades are there in Montessori?

Ya at the school I worked at thats all you needed, now for this school you need to complete a teacher training course.

In Montessori its from Pre-k till 6th.
