Re: What languages do you know/want to know

I know English, French and Armenian but I don't write in Armenian, and I'm slowly assimilating the letters overtime again, it's still in the phase of recalling the sounds, it's not at a comfortable enough level to read a book.

I'd like to learn Russian (I took an intro course where I learned some basics and I can read cyrillic letters now) because I want to see many of the regions in Russia.

I wouldn't mind learning conversational Greek either, my area is full of them.

Re: What languages do you know/want to know

my parents speak fluent Turkish, they lived the early part of their lives in Istanbul afterall, but I didn't pick it up for whatever reason, even though they used it frequently enough at family gatherings or when keeping secrets from my generation. I always found it so strange sounding.

No wrong in learning the language of your enemy.

Many Armenians knew Turkish before the genocide, and carried it with them when they left turkey, and thier kids picked it up as well as armenian. Also many Armenians that moved later knew Turkish just like many know Russian, Farsi, Arabic. Many Armenians also have family in turkey or may have to do business there so it is good to know.

The Armenians in my community that know a 3rd language usually pass them down to their kids, and many know Turkish, as well as Arabic and Russian. They use them as a way to secretly communicate things when they don't want everyone else to know, mainly gossip.
