I cancelled the project twice before giving in and going on with it. I couldn't present it last week because I got the stomach flu and was out for the entire week. I had to go back to filming this week and edited it all day today.

In all honestly, given the restrictions for no more than six minutes, I think it turned out fine. It's not amazing in anyway but it's a short documentary... what do you expect? I obviously would have used better equipment with a much more comprehensive approach. I would love to make a feature length documentary on Woody Allen and his influence sometime in the future.

This is just a teaser with too much to say in too little time.

these sorts of artistic shortcomings are blueprints for future successful ones. The work you put into it will be especially worth it if someday you decide to make a feature length documentary.

Woody was screened today in class and it did quite well. There were much more questions from the class with this film; a lot of comments and suggestions. There were a lot of Woody Allen fans, to my surprise. The professor was impressed as well.

Since this was the last class meeting, we were to nominate films from our class. Any student in the class could nominate any film, including their own. Both films I made in this class, American Spirit and Woody, were nominated, from two different classmates. I was one of three students who had both of their films nominated. There ended up being rougly 20 or so films nominated.

Next, each student received a ballot and picked their top five from the nominees. From those, the professor will pick 2 or 3 three, and their films will be presented at the end-of-semester screenings, which are the best films from the semester from every film class -- chosen by the students.

I was extremely excited to be nominated. I didn't even know one of the students who came up to me and asked for the official title of my film. I felt pretty good that somebody was impressed and wanted to see me get a nomination. I'll feel very honored if one of my films get selected but there are so many people in the class and a lot of people just voted for their own friends so we'll have to see.

Glad to hear you have a decent shot though, btw how many people are in your class? When I took a video class we were maybe 20 students. I imagine your class is much larger.

I bought some lights yesterday night to set-up for today's shoot. I just bought a 750 watt and 500 watt work light.

You should look into "Degree Kevin" the basics in lighting if you are going into production. Most newer video cameras are smart to compensate. Using one color temperature with another will give you .... "I hate the way the lights made the footage look".

Some rough guides
3200 - 3600 degree K is roughly your regular bulb or some tungsten
around 5600 degree K is your daylight
7500 and up will be the none adjusted florescent

Chances are you were using 3600 K with the work lights and was lighting a daylight setting probably the people where yellow or orange. You can still use these light stands ... find halogen bulbs with daylight color temperature at around 5500 if you want to use them with daylighting.

It's tough to say, there's always people coming in and out in a class like this.

I'd say there are somewhere between 35-50 students. I know for a fact there were about 50 students at the beginning of class.
