I am somewhat surprised that this hasn't been mentioned yet.

But lets take a moment to remember the tens of thousands of people who perished on this day 15 years ago and the thousands of people who still live in abominable conditions due to the earthquake. I had just turned 1 years old in Vanadzor when the earthquake struck so I dont remember anything but from what my parents tell me it was terrible and i remember years after when i was watching tv in Armenia they would always show videos of the earthquake and recovery attempts while playing the national anthem and until this day when i hear the Armenian national anthem i get these images in my head.

You beat me to it Tigran, I was just about to mention it.

A sad day indeed. Armenianow.com has many articles about it, I suggest everyone takes a look at them.

While in Armenia this summer, a was part of a short documentary that portrayed a diasporan youth (me) going to see youth from Gyumri. They showed it today in Kino Moskva. I wish I had been there. You want to be in your country to remember events like this.

Let us hope and pray (and act) so that the earthquake zone will be able to stand up once again, and flourish into cultural, economic and social centers.
