not that I'm bragging or anything, but being familiar with a lot of language grammars and all, I think Arabic so far beats the hell out of even chinese when it comes to difficulty!

Here's a question...
In 1922, Stalin ordered that the armenian spelling changes to the "write how you hear" form. That is why Hayastantsis write the "yan" in their last name with a "hi" (that looks like a j), while diasporans right it with a "yech". Armenia's most famous linguist, Hratchia Ajarian never accepted this change, and that is why he always signed "Hratchia Ajar." from that day forward.

Many other changes occured of course, words like "ser" being written with a "yech" and not with an "e". This has caused misunderstandings between Armenia and Diaspora, as not only is their the dialect differences, but also a spelling one. It has also caused the armenian language to suffer, as new words cannot be created as the change of spelling has made the words lose its roots. This is why you see more and more english or russian words being used and accepted as "armenian".

Should Armenia bring back the REAL armenian spelling? They do not even want to talk about it....Anon, fire, flames (and other Armenia-born folks), your take on this would be much appreciated.
