    Re: Gun Control

Well the issue is with what kinda person you are, if you are violent and want to go around killing people or causing violence you don't need a gun to do that. NZ law is much the same as Australia. Lots of dairy's (mini supermarkets) were attacked by armed robbers, the dairy owners wanted the right to arm or even defend themselves; because under current law they could be charged for defending themselves. Meaning the victim defending his property, becomes the villain for hurting his 'helpless' attacker. The law wasn't changed though, despite all the protests and complaints.

....I don't understand where you're getting this from. You DO realize that most gangbangers and criminals who kill, or threaten at gunpoint, don't go around purchasing their guns at a local sporting goods store, right? How would banning weapons make it more difficult for Tyrone to get his used/stolen hand gun with the serial numbers shaved off? Most criminals don't want a way for the gun they're using to be traced back to them, so they generally don't go through the proper channels to obtain those weapons.

If you really want to see homicides go down, you should be more concerned with stricter punishments for those that are caught. Our judicial system is a liberal joke, and the criminals know it. Why should they worry about the consequences of their actions if know that even if they're caught in the act, they're just going to get a slap on the wrist, be it parole, getting out early on "good behavior", or what have you? Notice how the countries with the strictest criminal laws are the ones with the lowest crime rates (i.e. Japan). Taking away guns from law abiding citizens, who are the only ones obtaining them through legal means, is going to do absolutely NOTHING to deter homicides, and may actually only encourage more of them.
