  • 'Pope visit threat' - six remain in custody

Pope Benedict and security guards Security for the Pope has been tight during his state visit to Britain Six men remain in custody after being held for questioning by anti-terrorism officers investigating a potential threat against the Pope's visit.

Searches conducted as part of the investigation have finished without the discovery of anything significant. The Metropolitan Police says it searched both residential and commercial properties.

The six - who all work as street cleaners in Westminster - were arrested in the capital on Friday. They are employed by Veolia Environment Services, a cleaning company contracted by Westminster Council.

At least five of the men are not British nationals. Most are thought to be Algerian.

The six - who are all arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism - are aged between 26 and 50.

Armed officers arrested the first five at the company's Chiltern Street depot in west London as they were preparing to start their shifts. A sixth was later taken into custody.

In a statement from Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police said the men had been arrested in an operation under the Terrorism Act 2000 by officers from the force's Counter-Terrorism Command.

Six men continue to be questioned by police after being arrested in relation to a potential threat to Pope Benedict XVI's visit.

    Charming crowd aren't they.

A security source said last night: “We had to act and arrest them. We had reasonable grounds to suspect they would carry out an attack.

“We could not take the risk that they would mount an attack on the Pope which might lead to his death and the deaths of many others.”

"An investigation is also under way to determine if the foreign nationals had entered Britain legally and were entitled to work here."

"The alleged plot is believed to be the second planned assassination on the Pope recently. In April, Moroccan students Mohamed Hlal, 26, and Ahmed Errahmouni, 22, were deported from Italy, strengthening fears that Al Qaeda were seeking recruits there."

everyone knows how this works. big headlines that will make a lasting impression, a correction a few days later (in small print) when no one is no longer paying attention.

do you get paid for relaying this propaganda?

These guys are protesting against the Pope because of the Catholics overlooking abuse of children by paedophile priests.
Ironic really as this very same group are lobbying for the age of consensual homosexual sex to be taken down to 14 years of age and even 12 years for more developed children!
Somehow I doubt many 14 yr old boys are helping with the lobbying.
