ayah is probably a derivative of yaya. Somewhere along the line of that word's pronunciation history in your father's dialect ("micro"-dialect or perhaps "family-dialect") within the Western Armenian group), the first "y" was lost.Comment

My Grandfathers last name on (some) certificate and when he died was and is ( Hamparian). But one time when I was a child he told me his name was ...... Ham..par...sunian. I think he was telling me something? Does anyone know what that's all about ? /ArtashesComment
