  • Dada...

One can no longer claim to be a dadaist. It does not make sense. It was a movement reacting to WWI and was intended to attack and insult the bourgeois patrons of art. It failed. Today, it would be impossible for one to adopt the anti-aesthetic principles and succeed in the goal of Dada. It was specific to its time. Artists need to stop and reevaluate what they think they know about such concepts so that ignorance does not get clouded with artistic elitism.

OMFG F*ing impossible. I was just READING about it. In Tom Stoppard's Travesties

    Wow!! what a coincidence!!

On that note, I dislike the direction in which art has been heading recently. In Stoppard's words, "Doing the things by which is meant Art is no longer considered the proper concern of the artist. In fact it is frowned upon. Nowadays, an artist is someone who makes art mean the things he does. A man may be an artist by exhibiting his hindquarters. He may be a poet by drawing words out of a hat." - Tristan Tzara in Travesties, Tom Stoppard.

Dadaism was pointless and is pointless to this day. It is the stupid human "creation." Much like Dionne Brand's poetry. Much like many of today's overrated artists' works. Utter nonsense is now being categorised as art and valued. Stupidity at work.

I think Dadaism is a synonym for plagiarism.

According to its proponents, Dada was not art; it was anti-art. For everything that art stood for, Dada was to represent the opposite. Where art was concerned with aesthetics, Dada ignored them. If art is to have at least an implicit or latent message, Dada strives to have no meaning--interpretation of Dada is dependent entirely on the viewer. If art is to appeal to sensibilities, Dada offends. Perhaps it is then ironic that Dada is a precursor to modern art. Dada became a commentary on art and the world, thus becoming art itself.
The basis of Dada is nonsence.Through this rejection of traditional culture and aesthetics they hoped to reach a personal understanding of the true nature of the world around them.
I'm a monstrous mass of vile, foul & corrupted matter.

Indeed. And modern art (and literature) = Dadaist art. Utter nonsense, or most of it anyway...
