Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Where is the Love?

The level this forum has sunk to recently has been absolutely appalling. The racism and homophobia that have emerged since Dan came on, along with the rampant profanity that caused a rule change, is making this place look more like a forum for Texans.

The issues of ethnocentricity and exclusivity have been brought up before and they are beside the point here. My piece in the flame forum was not meant to be an indictment of the Armenian people. It was meant to be an indictment of the people here on this forum. It is an indictment of the hateful behavior displayed in the past two weeks by several forumers. It is Dan blasting fsthknan for nothing. It is Mousy telling Inna she is not Armenian because she is not fluent in the language. It is jahannam continually acting as if being from either Haiastan or Haleb is more important than being a rational, well-meaning human being. It is Lagonid's ridiculing of Asians. It is Tigran's blasting of Dan for being a half-breed, and Dan's blasting of Tigran for looking Turkish. It is the chiding of felizitation for being French that probably drove him away. It is Nimrod's persistent hatred of Parsaghyes, not to mention everything else. It is Mousy following up every single post of patlajan's with "look, it's an eggplant that learned to type" and every post of Shahumyan's with some criticism of Marxism that has nothing to do with the thread or the post. It is PASAMONSTER actually starting a thread for gay-bashing! It is Nimrod and others demeaning Violette and Aries for being open about their sexuality. This is hateful and it needs to stop.

We have a choice here. We can either fight amongst each other, or we can work with each other. That seems to be the whole purpose of having a forum, especially one like this. This is supposed to be a place where Armenians can come together and share ideas, not insults, and where non-Armenians can give a bit of outside perspective, should they be brave enough to attempt it. I'm not a Christian, but this is one time in particular where the principle of the love thy neighbor commandment seems to be a very good one to invoke. We are not understanding each other here. We are not even trying. We can all take a hint from forumers like BaronDants, who repeatedly impresses me with his level-headedness and his ability to see an issue from many different perspectives.

We need to take some time out to remember what is good about each other, and to appreciate it. Much like Baron did with his 1000th post, I am going to take this opportunity to give a little account of why I love all of you.

Mousy - You are easily the most prominent poster here. You are well-read and well-spoken. Despite your consistent childish behavior, I know you're a nice guy who is quite giving. I also acknowledge that if it wasn't for you, I'd be talking to myself half the time I post. You're quite hilarious, too.

Arvy - You may be the single most conflicted person here. I can feel your pain, though I don't respond to it the way you do. You are also quite articulate and quite rational, even though you can rant sometimes (something I certainly have no place criticizing). You are a sensitive person who is not afraid to be himself and is not afraid to give a little of himself away. That is rare. I know you're a loving person and you deserve to be loved in return.

Emil - What can I really say about you that hasn't already been said? I'm glad to have you as a moderator, even if an inordinate amount of the closed threads are mine. You've always been fair, you're extremely patient, and frankly, you have your work cut out for you. Plus, us Boy's Next Door gotta stick together.

spiral - Your wit always brings a smile to my face. The way you were attacked for posting a modified photo of yourself was ridiculous, and you handled it quite gracefully. I love your avatar. It is exactly what I think of when I think of you: concepts, many of which can barely be deciphered, spiralling into infinity. You've always stayed above the fray, and you have my utmost respect. Plus, us arrogant bastards gotta stick together.

Violette - You were the first person to ever be nice to me here. You put up with a lot of xxxx, and you always emerge as beautiful as ever.

ck - Your search for love exceeds even my own. Everything about you is warm to the touch, cool to the eye, and music for a dreaming brain.

sSsflamesSs - We clash quite a bit, but believe it or not, I have come to see things from your side. You are a noble, pure person that I would hold up above 99.9% of all the ones out there. I hope we can continue to become friends.

surferarmo - I know we'll continue to fight. But it's all in good fun. Your enthusiasm about political issues is actually quite endearing.

Tigran - You remind me an awful lot of my father. You're a strong, well-grounded kid and your fiery strength will either land you in prison, in the grave, or in a position of leadership where your resolve would be much needed. Keep the focus, Tig.

Aries - Don't let 'em bring you down, Irene.

PASAMONSTER - Quit fronting, man. You're a boy next door. You post about how much you love your little girl and miss your lover. Fight it with love, my friend. We all know you're a tough guy and you would end any of our lives without thinking twice, but we also know there's more to you than that. Show us.

jahannam - You actually can be insightful and even clever when you post to a thread for some purpose other than nitpicking others posts. Yes, you can even be funny sometimes, and even quite flattering, I have to admit.

whitelotus - I don't know where you went, Lily, but you are missed.

Afro - You know you mean the world to me. You've held my hand through some pretty tough times. I thank you for existing.

Anyway, that's my little bit of idealism for the day. This forum can be quite a wonderful place when it is at its best. Why don't we try a little harder to keep it that way?

    K. So it was all because of me that everything started? Why don't the mods just ban me and be done with it? Then I'd be singing the ArmenianClub Forum song,

If you're ignorant and you know it just ban Dan! (ban Dan!)
If you're ignorant and you know it just ban Dan! (ban Dan!)
If you're ignorant and you know it, then your posts will surely show it,
If you're ignorant and you know it just ban Dan! (ban Dan!)

loseyourname, I don't care if people are homophobic or racist or whatever on here, as long as they keep things civil, which is what a lot of people failed to do with regards to my sexuality, which is what caused me to start expressing my racialism in terms of name-calling. (note the difference between racism and racialism, and please don't yell foul play whenever someone says they don't like non-whites or whatever - you can like or dislike whoever you want, as long as you're civil about it.)

For the record, I did not bash fstkhnan for nothing. First off, I did not bash her at all. But the post is gone. Thanks to selective censorship. I'm beginning to like this too much. So why don't you ban me, Emil or whoever is the admin, huh? Then the forum would be "clean" of "xxxxxxs," because the "xxxxxx" was the one who brought all this on the forum.

Very well written Loseyourname. I was planning on writing someting similar and making it a sticky, but alas you beat me to it. So if you don't mind I'll make this thread stay up here for a while.

I agree with what was written here. I think we should all calm down a little, and start posting quality threads. Yes, I admit that I enjoy some of the members comments towards each other, but where does it end? It seems there is alot of hatred going on around here. If I close a thread it means it has gone off the deep end. There is no need for somebody to post another thread complaining about threads being closed.

I took a look at "other" forums similar to us, why is they are able to have civilized conversations? I know we only have about 15 members who are actively posting, why can't us 15 enjoy each others company? Sure there are times when somebody posts something stupid/lame/insensitive/etc, etc/ but thats what makes a forum enjoyable.

As for the "censorship" some of you are complaining about. If we all get along, there will barely be any censorship. The profanity filter was put in, because of the rampant profanity. Imagine if you weren't part of this forum, and you decided to check it out. What would you think about seeing f%$k this, f%@k that, you're an a@%@^@e?

I would hate for the forums to be closed down, I love all of you.

      Emil

Here I am! I saw the title of the thread and immediately thought that it was a call for me! Well I am the fairy Godmother of Love, I shall sprinkle what is left of my love potion reserved for Arvest, among all of you, thus sacrificing my personal interests for the sake of the good for the society. I missed you guys, let us remember the good times. The times of political debates, Fine Arts thread, my heated discussions with Baron regarding Karabakh and the celebration of the Tampon's Day, for which I by the way prepared gift baskets consisting of related material to all of my guy friends. Their girlfriends flooded me with “thank you cards”, and I felt the need to share my love further.

Emil jan, good to see you holding up your throne!

I like pretty much everybody on this forum. And I try to be nice even with those I dislike.

So let's all hold hands and sing "Yes Im Anush Hayastani".

...profanity and current state of the forum is the reason why we cannot have the link. It sheds a very negative light on ArmenianClub, and we MAY only be able to get the link back(which provides the forum all new members) if things improve.

My apologies, 1915. I promise I will behave from now on.

And I hope Shahumyan can come back.

                  peace.

Oh wow, I didn't think the situation was that serious. But I suppose you're right. We'll tone it down a bit, won't we kids?
