Sorry to hear it and I hope it's not the serious kind of diabetes. From my limited understanding of the condition, there is a good chance she can lead a "normal" life with a bit of watching what she does and eats.

Try to keep a positive outlook and I hope for the best.

I know that this will probably not mean much, but I am really sorry to hear that. Alos angry at the idea of a 6 year old with diabetes. So sorry to hear that.

wow, im really sorry about the news she has diabetes.
Its really hard for children who have diabetes, because they simply do not understand that cant eat this this and this.
Its much easier for adults to handle it, because they have a more developed mind and they understand why.

i wish you luck, and much patience, it will be difficult, but at least nothing else is wrong with your daughter , which is most important. Diabetes can be controlled and you can make it easier for her, you just need to be very supportive and patient whenever she throws a tantrum because she cant eat something she really wants to like the other kids.

adults have this problem as well, they get really depressed because they cant eat everything, and they start getting obsessed with the fact that they want it, and they do everything they can in order to get the sweets the desire. So its not only children.

as parents, i think you should both put aside your differences in favor of your daughter and her well being. The mother should lay aside the problems or the dislike she has for you, and let you be with your daughter more then you usually are allowed to or what not. She should be understanding and supportive that you want to spend more time and take care of your daughter as much as she wants to .

Wow, I really appreciate the support. Thanks all for the good wishes. Yesterday we got her temporary diet. Not too bad. I picked her up in the evening and we went together to the supermarket and bought alot of the specialty sugar free stuff made for diabetics and hypoglycemics. She seems to be taking it well and pigged out on sugar free cookies when we got home.

Her pediatrician is great. She has a 14 year old who has diabetes as well and recommended a specific pediatric endocrinologist. We'll be seeing her next Tuesday for testing to determine type, stage and treatment...
