You're missing out on all the fun if you're going to be staying at Hotel Armenia and will go out dining at the most expensive restaurants every night.

Mais bon, to each his own...

What would you recommend for a clueless traveler like myself?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to do the whole tourist thing, then sure, Hotel Armenia would be an ideal location (right in the middle of Republic Square, next to my future workplace). And I guess you can easily find a tour guide service that will take you to all the tourist attractions. You can spend some time at the Tufenkian hotels too (they have some damn nice ones).

But if you want to live what many call "The Armenia Experience", you should think about joining a group like LCO or something, where you'll spend time renovating a hospital or a school and will get to interact with the locals, and have the time of your life with them, instead of taking pictures of them from your tour bus. They will usually also take you to the main tourist spots.

Anywho, I guess it all depends on what kind of experience you want to live. If it's your first time in Armenia, I'd definitely recommend an LCO type thing. That's just my opinion though. And I do not know if there would be any complications if you don't speak Armenian.

I'll go but I don't want to go alone!
