Gomidas went from village to village, transcribing folk Armenian music and songs, and saving them from disappearance. He has also composed his own music, and re-created the Armenian Mass.
The pieces Haberban, Shogher Jan, and the always-goosebump-giving Groong should be familiar. Best interpretation you can find is probably the ones done by the Gomidas (or Komitas) String Quartet. Or if you want to hear the words too, Armenak Shahmuradian is probably the most famous singer of Gomidas. I actually have a CD where Shahmuradian sings 9-10 songs, and there are 5-6 songs sung by Gomidas himself. First time I heard it, it was like hearing Jesus's voice.
Anoushi Opera was written by another great Armenian, Hovannes Tumanian.
