I've noticed a repetitive behavior in our little forum. The males who consider themselves exceptionally bright, are continuously bashing each other. They strive to exceed one another in wit, reasoning and their profound views. Some of them assume the correctional duties by pointing out flaws in other members posts. They bash each other mercilessly and are quick to diminish the credibility of each other's ideas. At times I feel like it's only for fun, but at other times I realize that they take this competition quite seriously. And it often carries a resemblance to this sort of exchange:
"You are stupid"
"You are more stupid"
"Well you are extremely stupid"
"Well you are so stupid that your photo should be next to the word "stupidity" in the dictionary"
"Well you are more stupid than that"
"If this was an empire of idiots you'd be the emperor"
"Well you are stupid to the infinity"
...........etc.
The female members are very agreeable and hardly get in these sort of "intellectual" debates. Nor do you ever hear them say that they are smart and everyone here is stupid. Nor will they go correcting others. They never resort to vulgarity or name calling. They disagree at times, but always remain humble and tactful. Meanwhile the boys are soooo caught up in presenting themselves in a very intellectually superior image.
So that leads me to ask: Can I generalize and say that men are slaves to their ego. How important is it to them to be the best and why? Is it to impress the women? Is it due to their lack of confidence which they try to conceal with pompousness? Do they view "a peaceful, tactful and humble" interaction as an emasculation?
By the way if you draw a parallel to politics, you can trace the same behavior. Leaders are set on being the best. Why say you are sorry and solve things diplomatically, that's sissy, it's much more masculine and appealing to oppose, defeat, argue and show yourself as the superior authority.
Am I overanalyzing this? Could it be that I am over exaggerating and falsely generalizing or do you notice this sort of behavior as well.
My question is why? What does it do for people, what aspect of their character does it satisfy, what does one achieve by that?
BTW: We all know who the Super Egos of this forum are.
