Thanks for reitterating what iv known for a while now .. but we can still be safe legality wise to post any of the information we do and cite it, despite the owners literal consent.. but i mean.. i have to problems doing what you asked.. im just trying to clarify the point..
u want me to post abstracts to articles then link it.. sure.. no problem. bandwith is the issue then.. more so than legality. .. oh wait.. u said that allready

"Promotion of sites or products is not permitted." ... that's part of this site's rules as well. I've seen countless posts be yanked only because they contained links to other sites or forums.

So I think you guys have to iron this one out with your admin first as it ain't that simple

As long as it's not for purposes of reproducing the text, you can post it, and it would be for "educational purposes." There are many forums that do this (i.e. post entire articles), but they give credit to both the author AND the website/newspaper, etc..

Whatever. This is yet another "rule" that this forum has put in the last month or so. I think by the end of this month, you will have more rules than you will posting members.

That's like when the software pirates of the 90's would "release" full applications and game copies for "educational purposes" that you were supposed to delete within 24 hours ... hahahahahaahahah ... it was so wide spread that I think most believed they were doing something that was legally ok

I wouldn't worry about copyrighting if I were you guys. Since there is no monetary gain from using the materials that are said to be copyrighted there's no damage. If there's no damage there can't be any legal action.

You must obtain permission when you're using it for commercial purposes (and selling/distributing pirated software IS commercial, unlike posting articles). Everyone does it, even on their LiveJournals, or other forums. Not that it makes it right just because everyone does it, but that's the way it is - i.e., it's not illegal, unless you're selling those articles.... Just because you make them available on your website and people can print the articles off it and do illegal things with it doesn't make you responsible for it (the person doing the illegal distributon is responsible for it, not you).. otherwise no one would be able to quote any book because they run the risk of being sued if someone else "steals" their paper, etc., which includes a quote from a specific book, etc.. It makes no sense. For example, in one of my English Lit. course, we wrote a comparative essay on 2 books and had to use an academic paper or article as a primary source, and provide a photocopy of the article along with the submitted essay (that's not a copyright infringement, since it's for educational purposes).

You must, for example, obtain copyright clearance if you want to put a specific article in a course kit that you will sell to students at university (because it involves selling, even if it's for educational purposes). But if I make two or three or four copies for my personal use of that article, it's not illegal...
