my parents were stunned (don't know why? no big deal) when i memorized tumanian's 'maro'...then they'd have me recite it every chance i got...i was about 12 at the time and of course i 'had' to memorize one of paruyr sevag's famous works for a new year's eve gathering back when i was about 10...those were the days...aahhhh....
