lol i been using for years now and never had a problem, i don't even use any small program to do computer clean up...you just need to know what your doing, thats all

That's not really true. There have been a number of recent windows vulnerabilities that had nothing to do with what you did. The attacks utilized open system holes to actively get in and didn't rely on the user doing something ... one of the first such attacks that got to be really huge was the blaster worm that spread like crazy until microsoft patched the RPC service a bit.
Having a good anti virus is not a bad idea. At least you can use it to check the integrity of attachments and files that you get from various sources.
AVG is an excellent one that is free. You can get it here.
... but on top of any such protection, it's a very good idea to keep the system updated with all the latest patches and security fixes (e.g. windows update). And yah, definitely don't click on stupid links by spammers (e.g. first post).
