I already know the answer MAC OS X is based on UNIX (mostly FreeBSD). That's probably what you have heard.

but vista is so much prettier...

it's all transperant and stuff. but it has much stricter security settings...which causes some programs not to work unless you change the security settings..

I had a problem with a video game i play online..... because the game requres that a third party "cheat detector" to examine the game, it wouldn't open cus it thought someone was hacking to my program, but i quickly fixed it with a quick "google"
