  • Laptop Overheating Problem

    Hello all.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100, and it heats up quite quickly. Is this normal?

Anyway, since I am not familiar with the field, what kind of cooling fan (i.e. brand, model) would you guys recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

Run the Dell Diagnostics and check if the fans are working. There are the main motherboard fan and the CPU fan.

Where do you put the laptop usually. If you rest the laptop on any uneven surface, especially if it smothers the underside, like clothes or soft material, the laptop will get hot very quickly. I bought this neat laptop stand (they sell one in Walmart for very cheap), which allows me to keep it on my lap. Without such a stand, you should keep the laptop only on a table top or other hard surface.

If it still gets hot, it could be that your CPU is always overworked, due to say many background processes or virus, or a corrupted operating system, and naturally heats up. And finally, there might be a malfunction with any bit of the hardware on your laptop, which causes the wiring and the chips to get overheated. Also, update the BIOS just in case.

You don't live on the surface of the sun, right? Sorry, had to ask.

I would blast compressed air in the vents to blow out any dust/dirt. You will be amazed at how much that makes a difference in cooling. But this is assuming your fans are working so first do what Karoaper said ...
      this post = teh win.
