  • Gone, gone, Gonzo. A toast to Hunter S. Thompson

In commemoration of Alberto Gonzales' resignation from the post he disgraced in a largess fashion that only a Texan would have the gumption to try and pull off and Abe Foxman's 'genocide waffling jig' the beatdown in Beantown started, I would like to make a toast to a noble man on the start of another American football season, Hunter S. Thompson.

Somewhere up there, he is glowing right now, with two snorts and two snorts of Whiskey and the typewriter in full throttle.

    To Hunter:

Here's to bad politics and good football. May the meet every once in a while to remind us of our imperfections. Bottoms up!!!

"In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are f-ucked until we can put our acts together: Not necessarily to Win, but mainly to keep from Losing Completely."

Re: Gone, gone, Gonzo. A toast to Hunter S. Thompson

On the eve of the commencement of the 2008 NFL Season during which our 44th president will be elected, and in honor of an honest man and rabid fan on politics and pigskin,

A Toast to Hunter S. Thompson:

He was a fan of the two greatest bloodsports of mankind; and, he understood that when the whole world looked like it was going to hell in a handbasket, autumn would bring us football to celebrate booze and good cheer and Washington would provide us red meat into which we could sink our claws.

We've come to a point where every four years this national fever rises up — this hunger for the Saviour, the White Knight, the Man on Horseback — and whoever wins becomes so immensely powerful, like Nixon is now, that when you vote for President today you're talking about giving a man dictatorial power for four years. I think it might be better to have the President sort of like the King of England — or the Queen — and have the real business of the presidency conducted by... a City Manager-type, a Prime Minister, somebody who's directly answerable to Congress, rather than a person who moves all his friends into the White House and does whatever he wants for four years. The whole framework of the presidency is getting out of hand. It's come to the point where you almost can't run unless you can cause people to salivate and whip each other with big sticks. You almost have to be a rock star to get the kind of fever you need to survive in American politics."

    jesus he was handsome man
he used to ride on a white horse
    and shoot clay pigeons
    one two three four five
    just like that
and what I want to know is
how do you like your blue eyed boy now
    mister death ?

^^ the above was good enough for Bill Graham's requiem by Ken Kesey on 10-30-91, good enough for Gonzo.

Hunter is probably having a great pre-game Superbowl party somewhere up there and he's probably got a s-hit eating grin on his face too thinking about how the Republicans f-ed up so bad while they had a sitting president that the American public put an African American democrat in the White House, and the Republicans now have an African American leading their party. Heck, not even Richard Nixon's downfall accomplished that.

All the while, the Cardinals are in the Superbowl. The Cardinals are in the Superbowl? Its frickin historic.

Prior to 2008, no black man led the U.S. and the Cardinals never won a superbowl. So far, we are 1 for 2.

Wish you were here to see it, Hunter!

N.B. Its been more than six decades since a Cardinals team has won a championship or played in a championship game.

P.S. Give the Cardinals the points.
