You're right in the east part of the black sea region of Turkey most people are very nationalistic eventhough almost all of them are non-Turks. Turks managed to make people of Greek, Laz and Armenian heritage bloody Graywolfs.

How did they do that when there was not even a trace of Armenians and Greeks left in that area….and this is long before Ataturk or any organizations as such. Did they import from Istanbul?

They did that by converting people into Islam and assimilating the native people there. Not everybody that says he/she is a Turk is in reality a Turk.

Are you suggesting that Nationalistic Turks are not really Turks but Armenians and Greeks or are you saying that due to centuries of intermixing the Turks in Trabzon have Armenian and Greek blood in them.

The most fanatical zealots tend to be either the most recently converted to the cause, or those who, for whatever reasons (historical or economic), grew up in isolated diaspora communities. For example, most of the Young Turk leaders were either from families who were recent converts or came from the provinces of the Empire where ethnic Turks were a tiny minority.

I dont like Turks and if if i sit next one i get up and change my seat and if i see one in the street i make sure to give them a dirty look.

If you decided to come to Turkey one day, ask people how they feel about Adile Naşit,Onno Tunç, Garo Mafian,Rober Hatemo,Şebnem Ferah, Hayko Cepkin. And there are a lot of nice Armenians.

Then ask people how they feel about Armenians. How do you claim that 95% of Turks hate Armenians? This country has changed a lot.

Btw, I am Bosnian origin and I live in Turkey. Turkey is multi-cultural and colorful country as like America. And yes there are racists but most of people do not care about them. BBP(racist party) won %1.21 of the votes in election . lol.

In the history, many bad things happened. People were suffering because of politicians. Today in America, millions of Japanese lives together in peace. Today, there are 60.000~70.000 Armenians lives in Turkey.

Between the people of Armenia and Turkey really have many similarities. They lived together peacefully for centuries.

If you decided to come to Turkey one day, ask people how they feel about Adile Naşit,Onno Tunç, Garo Mafian,Rober Hatemo,Şebnem Ferah, Hayko Cepkin. And there are a lot of nice Armenians.

While it is true that most Turk's don't 'hate' Armenian's as such, they do hate the accusation they committed genocide or that they have done wrong, and thus refute or deny their past...the result being the same as if they did all hate Armenian's...total disrespect and intolerance of Turk's towards Armenian's and their cause....and it can't be forgotten how much support Turkey gave to the Azeri's when they tried to destroy Armenia.

That being the case a minority of Turk's do not think like that, most Turks who believe in the Armenian genocide or don't 'hate' Armenian's in the terms I have just described have gone underground out of fear of being attacked by Islamic nationalists and extreme nationalists in Turkey.

I'm not a fan of politics at all but I can describe their political views as conservative. Not racist. Mhp won %14 of the votes in election. And Kegam Karabetyan ,who is Armenian descent, is one of the member of Mhp.

Most of people voted for Akp. Democrats govern the country since 2002. Polls shows that the Akp will win the next election again.

In fact, one of the reason I become a member of this forum is the Digital Art. I study it in university. I especially read the various Greeks&Armenians&Persians forums for 3 weeks.

@Alexandros, I also read ,in this period, "Red Dyed Hair/Kızıla boyalı saçlar" book written by Kostas Mourselas who is Greek author .That was great. Anyway. I survey the tradition of Turkey's neighboring countries.I will create an animation for my own project. That will be about people living in the same region.

Wasn`t it MHP(when they were in coalition with Ecevit`s party) who refused to receive help from Armenia when Turkey was hit by an earthquake in 1999.Let me quote an excerpt from an article:

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Hours after Turkey's massive earthquake last week, the government of Armenia readied a team of 100 disaster specialists and loaded 10 trucks with rescue and relief supplies for the stricken zone less than a day's drive away.

Aside from proximity, Armenia offered expertise gained from its own disaster in December 1988--when a magnitude 6.9 quake killed 25,000 people. The Rapid Deployment Unit, subsequently formed by the Armenian Emergency Situations Directorate, has saved the lives of quake victims in Iran and China.

But as more than 2,000 relief workers converged on Turkey from 51 countries, Armenia's elite rescuers waited for a go-ahead. And waited. Then on Saturday, Turkey informed Armenia that it had plenty of help already and did not need more.

A Turkish official said Armenia's offer went first to Turkey's Foreign Ministry, which urged Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit to accept it. But the official said Ecevit failed to persuade the Nationalist Action Party, the most militantly nationalist of the three parties in his ruling coalition.

As for Kegam, well, you also had Özal and Demirel who both had been President and both had Kurdish descent, right?In what way did they improve the rights of the Kurds?Had Özal and Demirel spoken openly and proudly about having Kurdish descent and promising about improving the rights of the Kurds then I`m not so sure they would had become President of Turkey.See my point?

As for calling MHP "conservative" is wrong.I would rather call them a far-right Nationalist party - and yes, in some sense racist too.

We should not forget MHP`s facist ultra-nationalist youth organization - the Grey wolves.Although Bacheli shut down this facist organization, it remains to be seen if this was only a "cosmetic" change in order to appeal to voters from other parties in the coming elections in 2011.

The question is if they will win enough votes to form an own majority.The latest polls I`ve seen shows AKP losing votes to CHP(which hardly could be called a social-democratic party) and MHP.

I never heard that Demirel has Kurdish roots. However, Özal should have some Kurdish blood. It's true that in Turkey, you can find many successful statesmen who has Kurdish roots. However, they will not have an explicit Kurdish identity. As long as you identify yourself as a Turk and behave accordingly, everything will be fine.
(As a note, probably one exception would be the army. I don't think they'll let anybody to take an important role, such as being a general, there if he has Kurdish roots.)
