I just now discovered this forum spontaneously through Google search
I am 22 years old, from Washington, D.C. & student at George Mason University. My ethnic background is half-Armenian(mother)&half-Irish(father).
I feel that I do not know much about my Armenian heritage because my parents are divorced and I was raised by my dad. So, these discussion boards will inform me greatly!

I agree that there is much common ground between the 2 cultures (from what I know).
The historical Irish VS English dispute has similar devastating results and causes to the tragedies Armenians faced during the early 20th century. Not to mention, both nations have faced bouts of widespread starvation and were subject to prejudice upon immigration to the US.

My initial thought was of the more internal traits they have in common, or have been accused of having in common.

And I recall an 19thC NY anti-immigration cartoon about a bunch of burly Irish policemen ready to weigh in to a devious-looking mob of Armenian Hunchaks, Russian revolutionaries, and Serbian Black Hands fresh off the boat for Europe.

Hardy har har har, the Irish were attacked for being Immigrants by the BRITISH, who called themselves Nativists, we weren't stopping people of different races as we were stopped ourselves, google NINA laws and anti Irish discrimination, even Gangs of New York showed it, don't confuse us with what you English did to "non natives" (like the Anglos or whites were native to the Americas in the first place).

Really, do you ever have any references to back up your claims?

There were very few Irish newcomers in the U.S. until the very end of the 19th century--and those were complete off-the-boaters, meaning unable to assimilate enough in the country to hold a position like law enforcement because of initial discrimination. I'm thinking socially, the Irish had little-to-no chances of becoming officers of the law until the 20th century at earliest; generally speaking.
Pedro's right, cities in the northern states (Boston, NYC) which many Irish Catholics emigrated to from Europe followed N.I.N.A. (No Irish Need Apply) employment implications at numerous jobs, even at the bottom level.
