  • Fork in the Road: Einstein Vs. Dostoevsky

Million dollar question, would you rather be a Einstein or a Dostoevsky?

    The latter.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

Re: Fork in the Road: Einstein Vs. Dostoevsky

Einstein may not have been responsible solely or even mostly for theories attributed to him. For one, it is still controversial as to who has primacy for special relativity: he or Poincare. Second, Einstein's wife may have made contributions to that work but received no credit. The letters they exchanged have references that suggest there may have been a collaboration. In addition, after his divorce with his first wife, he produced little that could be compared with his early work. The 1905 Annus Mirabilis papers were all crafted during the marriage, and general relativity work was also done in that time.

Dostoevsky was without a doubt one of the great literary geniuses. He can only be compared to the likes of Tolstoy, Dante, Pushkin, Shakespeare, and Homer.

I would be honored to be either one. But if I had to pick one now, I'd pick Einstein because I have always wanted to understand theoretical physics better.

I know little of either of the men. However on the basis of what I have learnt or been told of the two, I would rather be an innovator than a chronicler. Which, by the way could be categorized as something in between the two genuses.

If I am correct, his first wife was Serbian?

Below is a link to an interesting e-book by Christopher Jon Bjerknes about einstein and his "discoveries". Replace the x's with j e w

Interesting take on the subject, very few men and women would opt to understand "theoretical physics better", I don't know, really, being a writer is something else, you get to hang out at some elite coffee shop, meet women in the process, and talk about interesting things versus being stuck in a lab, where the only smooth body is on on your screen saver.

All jokes aside, yeah, both have perks, but I don't know, it is a hard decision, to live in rigid world versus a translucent one, the quesiton is, which individual lived a full life? Kind of leaning towards Dostevskey with the rest of the members.

Fortunately, it seems (and I hope) the reasons behind your choice are more genuine that some others in this thread.
