I'm sure Bush and Clinton are there now to help make Haitians wealthier by occupying their land with 20,000 U.S. soldiers.

Obama asks for aid package for Haiti

President Barack Obama has asked the US Congress for a $2.8 billion aid package for Haiti.

It is on the high end of what lawmakers expected to be asked to pass for the Caribbean island devastated by an earthquake in January.

At least a third of the unprecedented $2.8 billion aid package will go back to the Department of Defence and US International Aid Agency for money already spent.

It will also reimburse Florida and other states for medical treatment to Haitians.

The bulk will be used to reduce overcrowding in the capital Port au Prince and to rebuilding houses, industrial and agricultural facilities and restoring electricity.

Two thousand US marines left Haiti this week, leaving 3,300 US soldiers behind providing emergency and medical treatment.

My take on Haiti:

There are about 10,000 U.N. Troops in Haiti and about 8,000 U.S. Troops now... most of them are offshore in Military Ships. Unless you're ignorant or just plain dumb or playing dumb, it's not hard to tell that the reason Haiti lives in poverty is because they are prisoners on their own land.

Which news site is reliable?

Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters last week that military planners are being "very deliberate" about their departure from Haiti. Already, the number of troops has dropped by roughly half from its post-quake peak of 20,000. But for Haiti to have an honest chance of rebuilding, U.S. troops will be needed for much longer. Leaving too quickly could doom Haiti.

You may be right about the numbers. However not all the UN troops in Haiti are American.

China only gave Haiti 2 million USD in aid, a team of medics and a single unit of riot police. Why aren't you criticizing them.

Which news site is reliable?

Most likely independent sources that aren't funded by wealthy people with personal agendas. I agree, they are hard to come by, but they are out there. Taking a look at different points of view from different news sites around the world also helps in getting a better picture of world events.

Not all the UN troops in Haiti are American either. China only gave Haiti 2 million USD in aid, a team of medics and a single unit of riot police.

Those UN troops were there before the American Military ordered to send in their ships to take advantage of an opportunity during the Earthquake. There might have also been plans to replace the U.N. troops with U.S. troops, possibly a graceful transfer of power.

Haiti is and always has been a basketcase.

Those "Haitians" were brought to the island to work in the sugar plantations. They were slaves.

Ideology and religious motivation is worse than wealth, it's one thing to want to make a buck but quite another to force your religion and 'free market' ideology down another nation's throat; got to love the IMF and World Bank, real 'savour's' of the poor and if Iceland's anything to go by then they love making rich nations poor too.

Unfortunately, nearly every country is funded by the IMF and World Bank to place their mafia driven governments in power in order to enslave the people which work to pay off the "national" debt which for the most part goes to pay for the military and soldiers that are used to protect the interests of the wealthy. It's a vicious cycle.
