WFP spokeswoman Emilia Casella told journalists: "Libya is a net food importer and the food supply chain is at risk of collapsing," as imports were not reaching ports and distribution around the country was reportedly hampered by violence.
"They do have limited production of wheat, barley and olives mainly in a small area around Benghazi, but that is not enough to meet the population's needs," she added.
While the WFP was not delivering food aid in Libya before the turmoil, a supply corridor from the northeastern coastal city of Benghazi across the desert for 260,000 people in Chad was halted after ships were diverted because of the turmoil in Libya.

They won't have a choice of who to vote for as the candidates have already been picked for them. By process of elimination, they will be left to pick the 1 candidate that stands out as the rest will run on retarded platforms. Libya doesn't look like it's ready to be transformed yet.... looks like Gaddafi is wheeling and dealing.

All of these Muslim states have corrupt, autocratic regimes and the centralization of power and wealth is compounded in these places by nepotism and tribal cronyism. However their is clearly a major poltical shift in the region occurring.
In my opinion, young, fairly well educated Muslim populations, aren't likely to vote for the Islamists and I can see a large, overpopulated North African countries such as Egypt. Slowly moving towards and adopting some kind of Democratic Socialist government.

Barack Obama tells Gaddafi: Libya violence must stop
"He added: "Like all governments, the Libyan government has a responsibility to refrain from violence, to allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in need, and to respect the rights of its people. It must be held accountable for its failure to meet those responsibilities, and face the cost of continued violations of human rights."

Guest Column: Libyan war must be acknowledged

Massacres, genocide can be stopped by awareness, should not be ignored
From the 1890s to the 1920s, Turkey massacred a large percentage of the Armenian population for spreading ideas about civil rights. This spurred the first international human rights movement and the American Red Cross to embark on its first mission to aid Armenian survivors of massacres in 1896.
Although the public’s disapproval of these atrocities increased, the punishments for these crimes grew weaker. In 1921, the Turkish trials were abandoned while war crime prisoners were traded and freed. The U.S. needed Turkey as an ally because it was the core to oil policy in the Middle East. Baroness Caroline Cox of British Parliament responded in 1999, “If nations are allowed to commit genocide with impunity ... there is a real danger that other brutal regimes will be encouraged to attempt genocides. Unless we speak today of the Armenian genocide ... we shall leave this century of unprecedented genocides with this blot on our consciences.” The Armenian Genocide is looked at as an archetype for the genocides that ensued. Even Hitler remarked with indifference, stating, “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”
As you read this, hundreds of Libyans are dying while attempting to overthrow their dictator in the hope for democracy that has been spreading across the Middle East. The oppressive government has disconnected the people’s Internet and thrown out the media in attempts to permanently silence the movement for change. Through courageous acts of protestors, social media has exposed the atrocities in Libya. A Twitter activist @ChangeInLibya in Tripoli published, “LIBYANS ARE BEING MASSACRED RIGHT NOW.. LISTEN TO THE NEWS.. HELP US PLS HELP US.. TRIPOLI HAS 1000S OF DEATHS FOR GODS SAKE WORLD WAKE UP.” President Barack Obama finally acknowledged the violence Wednesday night, while major news outlets allowed Justin Bieber’s haircut to overshadow the selfish complaints of increasing oil prices as a result of the protests.
The question is quite simple: At what point are the diplomatic compromises no longer acceptable to the basic principles of man? How much genocide, in the name of religion, nationalism or race, is required before the people of this planet are willing to stand up for another man’s basic right to live? What would the world be like if nations acted from the heart instead of cloaking black and white with the “grays” of diplomacy?
Friends, Gamexxxx family and fellow human beings, we cannot let the Libyan voices be silenced and forgotten like the Armenians’. History does not have to repeat itself. We can’t save every life, but we can spread awareness. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” Look beyond the triviality of your problems, and help our generation change the world for the better.

Re: Two Libyan fighter pilots defect, fly to Malta
We know how much the U.S. cares about the people in Libya
1986: US launches air strikes on Libya
At least 100 people have died after USA planes bombed targets in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, and the Benghazi region.
Around 66 American jets, some of them flying from British bases launched an attack at around 0100hrs on Monday.
The White House spokesman, Larry Speakes, has said that the strike was directed at key military sites but reports suggest that missiles also hit Bin Ashur, a densely populated suburb in the capital.
Colonel Muamar Gaddafi residential compound took a direct hit that killed Hanna Gaddafi, the adopted baby daughter of the Libyan leader.
President Reagan has justified the attacks by accusing Libya of direct responsibility for terrorism aimed at America, such as the bombing of La Belle discoteque in West Berlin 10 days ago.
President Reagan said he had irrefutable evidence that Libya was responsible for the West Berlin night club bombing on 5 April 1986 which killed two American servicemen and a Turkish woman.
The Tripoli central hospital and two other medical centres say they have treated hundreds of injured people, including a number of Greeks, Italians and Yugoslavs.
