Why did I find this out from a Russian news source, and not, oh, one from the US maybe??

Here's what the government is trying to do..... "freedom of religion blahblahblah" ... "Oh, wait, hey, let's put the Christian God in charge of the country" by implementing the Constitution Restoration Act.

Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 (Introduced in House) - HR 3799 IH
Constitution Restoration Act of 2004 (Introduced in Senate) - S.2082.IS

" `Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, the Supreme Court shall not have jurisdiction to review, by appeal, writ of certiorari, or otherwise, any matter to the extent that relief is sought against an element of Federal, State, or local government, or against an officer of Federal, State, or local government (whether or not acting in official personal capacity), by reason of that element's or officer's acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government'. "

If you replaced the word "God" with Allah, Buddha, Zeus, Swami Ayyappa, or many, many others, (such as "self guidance") many people would be really angry. But God.. well THAT'S ok.

We have a humanist social contract for a reason. It keeps people from doing serious evil to each other in the name of a religious figurehead and forces them to attempt to understand diversity and tolerate difference which encourages growth, creativity, and communication through the free exchange of ideas. The Supreme Court is charged with protecting our social contract and our freedom. Of late, it seems both of those freedoms come with footnote: except when..... fill in the blanks.

I can't stand legal jargon. What does that even mean? It makes it sound as if any government official that claims to be operating under the authority of God is completely beyond reproach. That obviously isn't the case.

Okay, I just read that article. That is deeply disturbing.

I tried to explain the legal jargon. Disturbing indeed.
