  • XML question for Seapahn, Anileve, or whoever

I've been reading about XML. I know it's a metatag language, stores data and metadata, and it has elements and attributes like html that are customizable and blah blah blah.
I'm hoping you CS/CE wiz kids can give me some concrete examples of applications for XML however. Specificly business/organizational uses of data conversion. (from legacy systems, or whatever elese you can think of). So far I don't see the big advantage, please enlighten me.

    Thank you.....

Pat, programming is not my field. I think Seapahn is more of an expert in that department. Sorry for my late reply, I just saw the thread.

You can post your question for a better answer HERE.

I've used XML for a couple of my CS assignments, nothing too complicated, just parsing.

Mentioning a couple of things that can be done with XML - there are XML based discussion board software.

And for some advantages of XML, check this page out: http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=25855

Aren't you a CS major? I think you should beef up on programming....it's rough out there. All the CS jobs I'm seeing are in programming, and they usually want experience in several languages.

Actually I am a CIS (Computer Information Systems) major, which is composed of business and Network Administration. I've graduated with a Network Administration degree, because I dislike programming, it was turning me into a very anti-social person who was constantly seeing codes in her sleep.

Programming is suffering a bit, due to major outsourcing that is sweeping the job market. The only language I am planning to beef up on is C++ ( I hated Java), everything else doesn't interest me. But you are right, if you don't have a Computer degree and if you are reaching for an exec position it's better that you know as many languages as possible.

It's a dog eat dog world out there right now, and I think it'll stay that way. They want you to be good at everything now a days.
