These bad boys lock-in to their prey’s wing frequency while filtering out all other eco distractions (Like my Labrador homing in on a single smell out of a thousand when we go on walkabouts).
Some insects have learned to close their wings and drop like a rock to avoid a midair interceptions. Smarter bats have learned how to correct for such errors. Bats are the most puzzling when it comes to winged flight.

And we think we can fly (out manoeuvre) the pants off of anything as humans………….we have still a long way to go to match such skills that come naturally to wildlife with our machines and human limited capabilities.

My Alsatian used to do the same! He was a real detector of smells and voices. Anyways, never knew about the insect strategy.

I guess it must be their natural ability to detect ultrasonic frequencies, the same they use for catching their prey. They are practically blind, but they use the sound waves by means of orientation.

Bats are amazing in the way on how they skillfully fly so fast maintaining such tight formations while pulling breakneck G manuevers............all the time not missing a beat on socializing with their wingman, using strictly Radar!
If that secret can be understood and incorporated into a HUD (Head Up Display).

I know Siggie, but this crap they publish in the media is where people get their knowledge.... somebody who isn't knowledgeable in the subject matter shouldn't be reporting about it.

It's not the article... They're writing for the layperson and the reporters aren't so great anyways. If it sounds interesting, look up the actual article based on the information (researchers names, journal it's being published in, etc).

Why is it that these science articles are dumbed down? Why aren't terms like frequencies used instead of voice?
