Other than the fact that we got to beat Azerbaijan, I don't see what the big deal about chess is.

Sure I can play and think it's a great game, but it's not really a sport, and as far as making you a more logical thinker goes, it might help a little bit, but academic subjects like math and sciences like chemistry or physics are better choices.

And as for making you more strategic, playing team sports or even a simulated war game where you are in charge of sending and commanding troops would make you a better strategist.

Aronian didnt play against Egypt, the coach gave him the day off. Movsesian took first seat and the new comer was 19 year old Robert Hovhannisyan who is Armenia's champion in 2011.

Yes we should be proud of our chess players but for the right reasons.

Stop being silly bro. Your seeing ghosts. This has nothing to do with our oligarchs. Armenia oligarchs actually encourage sports in Armenia. China and India and Russia and America have more chess players than the entire population of Armenia and the Armenian diaspora combined. The Chinese, Israelis, Ukrainians and Russians in particular put a lot of effort in chess and sports of various styles. Yet a little poor Armenia has world class chess players and world class boxers and world class weight lifters and world class wrestlers. We also have many many many world class artists. So sorry to burst your Amerikana fluff about corruption and democracy in Armenia but this conversation is all about genetics and our genetics gives us our intellect and our pysical strength. Like I said GO ARMENIA!

Absolutely amazing how a small and poor nation can stand toe to toe with the world's most largest, powerful and richest nations when it comes to mind power. GO ARMENIA!

There is no correlation between being rich and being clever. ( or vice versa)

That is why many rich people have children who are idiots and many children from poor families become greats in life.

The secret is meritocracy.

Give everybody a chance, select your best without fear or favour, give them full support.

The nature of chess game, selection and hierarchy is just that.

One area where the oligarchs and corrupt Politian's “cannot” interfere.
