This is why i keep saying that the most important thing for our country and people is to develop a Armenia we will all want to go live in. The diaspora cannot and will not sustain and produce a viable culture-nation, it needs to be done in our country. Instead of saying o its all run by the oligarcs so i will have nothing to do with it, you need to think of ways to become part of Armenia by going there and searching for your place in her. Had twice as many Armenians been living in hayastan instead of outside of it much would be different now and the only way to make that happen is to build peace and prosperity-It can be done!
I agree that all/most of Diaspora Armenians should return HOME. And regardless of obstacles (they are not that big as they imagine) built/make their country stronger. Nowadays in Armenia you can buy beautiful cottages for less than $100,000. And establishing a small business, for instance stone processing, I know more than 10 owner of it, will cost you about $60,000. In Armenia monthly living cost for an average family of 5 is about $500. And, I think, this can afford every middle class Diaspora Armenian.

And your children will live in harmony with the friendly, supportive cultural environment. As a former teacher I know that when children live in a location together with prevailing number of other nationalities, most of them become defensive, because the majority, whose values differ in some areas from those of Armenians, enforces to comply with their values: this world is full of competition and no teacher can eradicate it from children’s soul.

Returning to the chess: in Armenia, you know, it is mass sport and your children will love it as well. And most of Diaspora Armenians return to Armenia will increase our victories in chess (and other areas) more than three times.

Let it be … let be …

    WORLD YOUTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
    November 12-22, 2009

Our chess player results are not as good as usual.
Probably because this is the generation of the “Cold and Dark” years in Armenia.

The good news is that according to the percentage of the Armenian participants in the tournament: they are 2.64% of the world chess players. Assuming that it is proportional to the number of population. Our population “is” 177 million.

    33. Mnatsakanyan Diana ARM 5,5

Out of 35 Armenian origin participants only 10 are from abroad.

This results in some sad statistics : although the Armenians in Armenia to Armenians abroad proportion is: about
    1 to 3

While the proportion of young chess players: Armenians in Armenia to Armenians abroad is: about
    2.5 to 1

This might either mean that young Armenians in abroad are interested in chess:
    7.5 times less
or they changed their last names.
