  • Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan Wants Pacquiao

Vic Darchinyan wants to meet the world's best pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao at an intermediate weight and believes he's suited to the Filipino superstar's style.
While he was more immediately focused on winning world titles in the next two or three divisions up, Darchinyan suggested Pacquiao could drop two or three classes for a fight featuring two of the most exciting boxers in the world.

"It is one of my dreams to fight him, I don't want to say I am going to go and knock him out," Darchinyan said of Pacquiao.

"I want to fight him and prove I'm very strong, but before I'm going to fight him I have many people I want to fight first.

"I can go up (in weight) and he can come down. I don't think I can make it up to junior welterweight, I will go up to super featherweight and I could challenge him at that weight and he could come down," Darchinyan said.
Both are renowned for their explosive power, with Darchinyan tallying 26 KOs in his 32 wins while Pacquiao has achieved 37 of his 49 victories inside the distance.

Each is a southpaw and Darchinyan was adamant he had the style to be competitive against a man fast rising up the list of boxing's all-time greats.

"I see his style is very suitable for me, I would love to fight him, you cannot believe how much I want to fight him," Darchinyan said.
    Brisbane Times

I always thought Darchinyan's over confidence was going to catch up to him, and it has, well if this fight ever goes down. But then again, I don't think I'm going to count Vic out.

I don't think Pacquiao will be around. Two more fights and he'll probably be the President of the Philippines. Things do look up for the Nightmare as he's fighting out of Roach's corner now too.

And, Vic is dreaming, Pacquiao made Hatton look like a trophy fish on deck flopping too his death - the cat's lucky he didn't get ambulance'd to the hospital to have his skull tapped.

DARCHINYAN vs. AGBEKO on JULY 11

Vic Darchinyan: First King Kong Agbeko Then Manny Pacquaio

The Undisputed super-flyweight champion and No. 9 rated best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Vic Darchinyan, is feeling confident these days as he prepares for his next title challenge.

Add his name to the long list of fighters who would like to win the lottery by fighting Manny Pacquaio.

Darchinyan has an upcoming showdown against Ghana's Joseph Agbeko—who holds one of those worthless alphabet belts—in sunrise Florida next month on July 11.

A victory over Agbeko would award Darchinyan his fifth major world title belt, and would also make him a three-division world champion, charting him on a steady course in his quest for all-time boxing greatness.

If its true that an overwhelming desire to succeed, a huge ego, and a champion's confidence are the main ingredients needed in the recipe for success, then Darchinyan's well on his way to the summit.

In no other fighter are these qualities more apparent than in this 33-year-old boxer who seems to be now entering his prime boxing years.

Darchinyan is a tough little Armenian born Aussie who is also a highly entertaining fighter. His fight record is 32-1-1, with 26 KO’s and he possesses an exciting "go for broke" style with crippling power, especially in his left hook

The one and only blemish on Darchinyans excellent record is a one punch left hook KO from Nonito Donaire—in July of 2007.

As a result when he squared off with Cristian Mijares three fights later in Carson, California on Nov. 1 2008 many fight fans saw Darchinyan as a definite .

He proved his critics were dead wrong by administering a one sided beating to Mjares which started from the opening bell, flooring him in round one.

Darchinyan completely dominated the next eight rounds, ultimately stopping his battered opponent in the ninth.

Darchinyan then became a new man on a fresh new mission, and he served notice to all others in the division by thoroughly destroying—the dangerous but fading—Jorge Arce in his very next outing.

In an ESPN interview recently, he stated that his intentions are to keep moving up the ladder until he meets Manny Pacquiao.

Showing uncommon respect, Darchinyan stated that his reasoning for wanting to fight Pacman is not that he thinks he can beat him, but that it has more to do with the greatness of the Filipino superstar.

Echoing the words of many top contenders before him Darchinyan stated, he (Pacquiao) is the best, and I want to fight the best!

"Maybe I will stay for a year at bantamweight and unify the titles, but eventually I want to move up and to win more world championships at different weights," Darchinyan said. "I want to go down in the history of boxing.

"People are talking trash because I am moving up to bantamweight saying that my power isn't going to be enough, but that's why I want to be in the US and be more focused on my training and show the world my power is more than enough for bantamweight," Darchinyan said.

"Everyone knows I've got a lot of power in my left, now during my sparring I'm more focused on my right, which is very powerful now too; also, my sparring partners are saying that I am punching much harder now with my right." stated Darchinyan

Agbeko, also known as "King-Kong", has built a reputation as one of the best in the bantamweight division with his only defeat coming against an alphabet champion named Wladimir Sidorenko.

The 28 year old Agbeko was inactive for a year before defending his title on December 11, 2008. In a fight that had been repeatedly postponed, he defeated William Gonzalez by majority

Darchinyan, who will not vacate any of his three flyweight titles until after the Agbeko fight, was striving for a permanent place in boxing history.

"I want people to remember me, not only at the time while I'm boxing, but after I retire, I want to be one of the best of all time."

Darchinyan's manager, Elias Nassar, revealed his fighter is "poised to challenge," and that many doors will be opened to "multimillion-dollar" bouts.

First things first of course, that's providing he beats King Kong Agbeko.

"He looks incredible with his speed and power and extra weight, I'm actually very scared for Agbeko," Nassar said.

Darchinyan, moderate favorite (-250), tonight in his quest to take King Kong's belt.

Darchinyan, Agbeko ready to put words aside
By DAVE SKRETTA – 1 day ago

Vic Darchinyan's insults sting about as much as his punches, and considering he's a four-time champion in two weight divisions, Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko wasn't surprised at what he heard during the run-up to their bantamweight title fight on Saturday night.

"I think after this fight they are going to change my opponent's name to Joseph 'Chimpanzee' Agbeko," Darchinyan railed on a joint teleconference. "This is going to be the biggest mismatch. Where would you like me to hurt you most, in the body or in the face?"

Darchinyan will be trying to become a three-division champion when he moves up in weight to challenge Agbeko for his IBF title at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Also on the stacked undercard, former cruiserweight champs Steve Cunningham and Wayne Braithwaite will fight for a mandatory chance at current titleholder Tomasz Adamek, and lightweights Tony DeMarco and Agnes Adjaho will be trying for a shot at WBC champion Edwin Valero. Welterweights Ivan Kirpa and Miguel Rodriguez will also be in the ring.

It's the two colorful characters in the main event that have attracted all the attention, though. Biting barbs have been flying back and forth for weeks.

"Vic is always talking about his power and about how he's this and that, but I've watched his fights and I never saw that power," said Agbeko, who's originally from Ghana and now trains in the Bronx. "He's always fought guys that are afraid of him and he did what he wanted with them. But in this fight, I'm going to do what I want to do."

Most observers favor Darchinyan, the Armenia-born Australian who's been ruthlessly knocking out just about everybody he faces lately.

Darchinyan (32-1-1, 26 KOs) became the first junior bantamweight to unify three belts when he stopped Cristian Mijares in the ninth round of a lopsided fight last November. Three months later, the "Raging Bull" was battering former titleholder Jorge Arce when a doctor stopped their fight at the end of the 11th round.

Darchinyan's only loss was a stunning fifth-round knockout to Filipino sensation Nonito Donaire — a defeat that Agbeko (26-1, 22 KOs) has rifled back against his brash challenger in their constant verbal sparring.

"Why didn't he talk like this when Nonito Donaire beat him?" Agbeko said, in response to another zinger from Darchinyan. "I wanted him to talk more, and I want him to realize that I'm going to beat him more than Donaire beat him."

Agbeko certainly represents one of the toughest challenges Darchinyan has faced, regardless of having to move up in weight. Agbeko's only loss was a controversial decision to Wladimir Sidorenko in 2004 that even Darchinyan believes was wrongly awarded.

Still, promoter Gary Shaw is nearly as confident as Darchinyan that one of his prized assets will win on Saturday night. Shaw even mentioned possible opponents for his next fight, ranging from a rematch against Donaire to challenging someone like Rafael Marquez at 122 pounds.

"I believe I represent a fighter who will go down as one of the greatest boxers to ever fight in the lower weights," Shaw said. "Vic and (manager) Elias (Nassar) don't care about weights. They only want the best fighters, and they believe right now that 'King Kong' Agbeko is the best fighter at 118 pounds."

Vic may have just blown his chance for a Donnaire rematch.. who knows. His mouth could not back up his fists against King Kong last night..many in the boxing game are scratching their heads wondering what business Vic had fighting King Kong in the first place.

He wanted to get a new belt, that's why. But he changed his entire strategy which can be dangerous. I mean, he's fought almost all his fights in his special way and now he did something completely different for no reason. As a fan, I couldn't see the Vic I knew in that ring. It looked like someone completely different.

Look, Vic didn't lose anything. He just made a fool of himself and added another lose into his record. He teased his opponent, showing no respect to him, thinking he would beat his ass up and it's not strange that just the opposite happened. Arthur on the other hand respected every fighter he fought ... at least on TV, I don't know what he was thinking inside but I think he was respectful even on the inside. It doesn't matter really because he behaved properly. Vic on the other hand really blew it this time. He was a bit too proud of himself. The dude he was fighting was a champ, not just some punk chewing gum down the block. Vic thought he would beat the xxxx out of him fast all the same and did a good job actually but still lost. What goes around comes around is all I can say...
