How good is armenia in basketball? how is the league? and do we participate in european or world cup qualifiers?

plus, considering there are lots of armenians, especially in los angeles. sure there are some players with armenian origins playing basketball in ncaa, or nbdl..
why not bring them for the national team?

We are too short. I am a bit over 6'1 and in hayastan i felt like a giant. Sure in the diaspora and in armenia i met people taller then me but they are rare and you need to be way taller then me to play forward or center positions. The diaspora has some tall players but again they are rare. There have been some armenian players in the ncaa, i played against some of them but the ones i knew were gaurds under 6 feet. Sure there are tall armenians who have basketball skills but they are to few to make a competative team on the international level. I think we have a team in hayastan but they are not good.
    Hayastan or Bust.

Sport: Armenian women still inspiring in basketball, disappointing in soccer

Yerevan women’s basketball club Hatis beat Turkish club Besiktas 87-64 in a European Cup game in Istanbul Thursday night. The Armenian club took a first-quarter lead and didn’t falter to dispatch the second-place team in Group F of the International Basketball Federation. Hatis’ win brings its record in league play to 2-1.

Others in Group F that also features Sony Athinaikos (Athens, Greece) and Chevakata (Vologda, Russia). In the two opening games Hatis first lost to the Athens club in an away game and then beat the visiting Russians.

After the latest victory in Istanbul Hatis have practically secured their qualification to the next round of the tournament.

Hatis’s next scheduled game is in Yerevan against Sony Athinaikos on December 3.

Venue: Mika Hall, tipoff time: 5.30 pm.

                Re: Armenians Basketball

I wish the women's team success. How many Armenians are on the team, from the pictures I have seen of the team the players look to be eastern European and African.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

The team in the 1980s (if not earlier) included Armenian, Russian and Ukrainian players. Today along with players from Armenia and Ukraine it also has members from Serbia, Croatia, USA, Georgia and Jamaica.

Today the team is made up of team captain Bojana Vulic (Serbia), Iva Serdar (Croatia), Natia Abuladze (Georgia), Anna Pokoyeva (Ukraine), Satenik Martirosyan (Armenia), Julianne Viani (USA), Maurita Reid (Jamaica), Natia Putkaradze (Georgia), Anna Baghdoyan (Armenia), Ani Petrosyan (Armenia), Tatevik Aleksanyan (Armenia), Hasmik Mikaelyan (Armenia), Anna Zaritska (Ukraine).

                    Head coach is Gia Ghazanchyan.
