Armenia to play friendly against Iraq

Armenian national football squad will play a friendly against Iraq on May 25 in Yerevan, president of Armenian football federation Ruben Hayrapetyan told reporters.

Iraq is ranked 103th in FIFA ranking.

On May 30 Armenian national will play a friendly match against Algeria in Geneva and on June 6 will travel to Mainz for a friendly against Germany.

Iraq is a lot better than its 103rd FIFA ranking. It's greatly limited because of the volatile situation at home. When it does actually get to play, it performs rather respectably.

This means 3 international friendlies in less than 2 weeks:

    May 25 v. Iraq (Yerevan)
    May 31 v. Algeria (Switzerland)
    June 6 v Germany (Germany)

Never before has Armenia managed to put together this quality or quantity of friendlies. Hopefully the new coach surprises us when he will have been in charge for 3 months.

AFFA PROTESTS TO ARMENIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION

    Trend, Azerbaijan
    March 27 2014

    Trend:

The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) has
protested to the Armenian Football Federation regarding the coaching
courses held in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, AFFA said on
    March 27.

At the UEFA Congress in Astana, AFFA Secretary General Elkhan Mammadov
informed the European Football Union representatives about this issue.

He expressed his concern about the fact that the Armenian Football
Federation conducts the coaching courses in the territory of
    Azerbaijan.

Mammadov also expressed AFFA's concern during a meeting with Secretary
General of the Armenian Federation. The latter stated that the courses
do not have an international status and stressed that the protest
    will be considered.

In 2008 AFFA joined UEFA Coaching Convention on the courses of "A"
and "B" categories, and two years later to the PRO convention. Only
AFFA is authorized to organize PRO coaching courses of "C", "B"
and "A" categories on the territory of Azerbaijan, according to the
    requirements of the convention.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are
    currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
    surrounding regions.

    Re: Armenian Soccer

Armenia lost to Russia 2-0 on Wednesday. The second Russian goal was on a penalty. It was a pretty bad game to watch based on the team out there. While Russia had its regular lineup, Aras wasn't playing, and Heno subbed out half through the second. More importantly though, Minasyan had a lot of players on the pitch who shouldn't have been there including the Yedigaryans and Marcos.

Heno was on a tear since restart of the bundesliga. He won player of the week twice in the span of 4 weeks and there was a nice quote from bundesliga.com after his most recent player of the week selection:

"It was goal number six and assist number eight of the season for the Armenian, who has taken the Bundesliga by storm and proven he has what it takes to fill the boots of Mario Götze"

However today the opposition was all over him, especially with lewandowski out, and he didn't have much room to operate. He also picked up his 5th yellow of the season, meaning he will miss the next game. But the coach said he probably needed the rest anyway. He has the second leg of the champions league next week.

Aras and Yura were somehow left off the starting lineup in Moscow's first game back. Their absence was obvious. After going down 1-0 against a relegation team, Yura was put in halfway, and Aras towards the end. It's an absolute joke that the best two players on the team didn't get the start. Thankfully Heno got out of the Eastern European system and didn't have his best years wasted. Hopefully Yura does the same in the summer.

Also, Artur Miranyan, 18 y.o, one of the most sought after Diasporan players who had played and scored (8 goals in 16 games) for the Ukraine U-17, U-18, and U-19 national teams has just committed to Armenian senior national team. He is also the captain of Shakhtar's U-19 team.

Mkhitaryan pretty much played a perfect game today, dominating the match and stat sheet with 4 shots on goal, a goal, and an assist. He has come back in incredible form after the winter break. He's scored 4 goals and 2 assists in less than a month of play, bringing his season total to 9 goals and 7 assists. He's finally starting to look like a 35 Million Dollar player.
