Optimism Prevails After DC Leaders Meet With MLB Officials Top Stories

(Washington, DC) -- Major League Baseball Chief Operating Officer John McHale is calling today's meeting with DC leaders about bringing the Montreal Expos to the Nation's Capital very positive. He says the city made a very strong presentation. Mayor Anthony Williams says there would not have been a meeting unless MLB was serious about relocating the troubled Montreal franchise to Washington. Both DC and MLB officials said such a move must be a win-win situation. For City Council Chair Linda Cropp, that means baseball's arrival should not have a negative impact on city services. Major League Baseball plans to announce a short list of possible relocation cities in a couple of weeks, and a final announcement could be made in July.
