Re: how much do hunting rifles cost?
depends on what you are looking for. a good american made bolt action rifle will go for around 350. however, you are probably going to want to add a good scope which adds maybe another 150-200 min. I am not a hunting expert but know a little bit about firearms and have friends who hunt. if you are hunting pig to eat then go for a sow or young male. boar meat is usually tainted after they reach puberty.

If all you want to do is "kill" then consider getting a bolt action .243 rifle. It is an easy caliber to shoot and accurate. You probably won't find a semi-auto in this caliber for cheap (not sure if any are made at all). If you want to learn to shoot well for some patriotic reason look into getting an SKS or AK clone. It will shoot the same ammo as the rifles used by Armenia and Artsak. From these the SKS is more accurate. You should be able to take a Boar or deer with these but make sure to check hunting laws and get a rifle legal for hunting for the state you are in.

Just some advice if you are buying a rifle just to target shoot, do some research on it. It is alot cheaper, easier and fun to shoot a .22 for targets. But you can't hunt anything more then a rabbit with it. If you are looking for something for home defense then consider a shotgun. You can use bird shot for basic home defense, go clay shooting, and use slugs to hunt. Slug range is limited but in crowded hunting areas it is safter and at time requiered.
