Have you guys seen this. It's hillarious, especially the part about "never attack an Armenian". Go to the part about "The Incident".

Some chess players are tedious and boring; but most are affable and good-natured, and not adverse to enjoying life. Some in fact are veritable party animals. Luckily there are many parties at chess Olympiads. So too in Turin, where at the wildest one there was an incident that has made it to the world press, which suddenly revealed a keen interest in chess. The full story.

Isn't Kramnik the world champion? This is big, right?

I don't know what the significance here is. This wasn't classic time controls.

I remember reading about this at the time when it first happened. The website you linked omitted something very important from the event at the time:

According to news reports at the time the people who "visited" the Gormally character after the altercation that evening was none-other-than Serge Sarkisian (the flamboyant/controversial Defense Minister of Armenia who is due to become President next year) and his personal entourage. According to rumors, Gormally was so roughed up by them that he had to be flow out of the country the next day. Apparently, Serge Sarkisian is an avid chess fan, he closely follows the Armenian team's progress and sometimes he travels with the national team during tournaments.

I think the aforementioned is what the website you liked was referring to when is stated: "We held back for a while with this report, at the explicit request of the English team, who was worried about the effect a massive world-wide exposure would have on some of those involved."

Aronians Queen sac in the last game was very pretty. Although Kramnik was able to force perpetual check. I had to set up the position on the computer to verify it. lol.

                    A proud day for Armenia

Levon Aronian won both games against the world champion Levon Aronian on day two of Rapid Chess Match at the Yerevan Opera House. Aronian leads 3-1 with two to play after winning with both colours. Armenia has a fine chess tradition being the homeland of the former World Champion Tigran Petrosian. This match is of such importance in Armenia that the Prime Minister is the patron of the event. The rise of Aronian to world number five and the country’s success at the Chess Olympiads and World Team Championships has made the whole nation proud.

In the words of the Armenian Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan:

‘Armenia has a true passion for chess – it is the land of Tigran Petrosian and of Olympic Champions. Chess is part and parcel of Armenia’s daily life, and it is hard to find a household in Armenia where this venerated game is not played. Indeed, we glorify our beloved famous grandmasters, likewise holding the legendary greats from around the world in the highest regard and extending to them our sincere hospitality.’ Now close your eyes for a moment and try and imagine such words from a British Prime Minister or indeed any western politician.
