logging out

why is it that eveytime my brother logs in and after hes done i press log out from his name it never logs out ive been trying for days and he still stays on

A cookie is basically a text file which your browser (like internet explorer) can write to your computer's hard drive. A cookie usually contains several bits of information which are key to forums, and other websites where you have to log-in. They contain your username, your password (encrypted), the date, time, expiration date, and website that it was from.

So if userA logs into the forums on your pc, it will create a cookie on your computer includnig his username/encrypted password. Now if userB opens the website, they are already logged in as userA, and are not given the option to re-login.

The problem with some computers is that the log-out function doesn't work, which is supposed to erase the cookie from your computer. That is why people have problems logging in/out when more than one person uses the website.
