The headline speaks for itself. Just proof of what Iranians are really doing in Armenia. Tourism my a*s.

Armenia Arrests Iranians, Seizes Drugs Smuggled Via Turkey

    February 14, 2010
YEREVAN -- Armenian law-enforcement officials have seized heroin and opium smuggled over the border with Turkey and arrested three Iranians in connection with the trafficking incidents, RFE/RL's Armenian Service reports.

In one incident on February 8, authorities said, about seven kilograms of heroin were found in a car driven by Hovannes Davtian, a Russian citizen of Armenian descent, who was accompanied by Iranian Mostafa Advai.

Police said in a statement that a drug trafficker in Turkey threw the heroin over the barbed-wire fence along the Armenian border, and that Advai picked it up. It said both Advai and Davtian were arrested near the closed border, which is guarded by Russian troops.

Another Iranian, Hossein Tazeh Kand, was arrested in the same area earlier on February 8. Authorities said police found about five kilograms of opium in his car.

Prosecutors estimate the total street value of all of the seized drugs is around $2 million and that about a dozen people have been arrested. Police said at least three of the detainees are Iranian.

A number of Iranian nationals are already serving prison sentences in Armenia on drug-related charges. Iran is believed to be the main source of drugs smuggled into the country.

Any leniency and you wont know how to stop this problem.

God save us when they open the Armenia Turkish border.

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

We should severly limit the influx of people from muslim countries such as iran, turkey, etc. We don't need our great country to turn into a criminal haven.

Although I do not wish to disagree with you on this point the issue is drugs and drug "culture" into our country.
This will weaken our social fabric and destroy our youth.

Drugs is not the preserve of Muslim people.
Apparently one of the culprits was an Armenian from Russia.

Access to drug supplies will become easier if its introduction is orchestrated by our enemies when/if the border access becomes easier.

I hope the authorities take the necessary steps to prevent and deter before we go down this slippery slope.

No, many Muslims "tourists" coming into Armenia which are mostly iranians and turks come not for tourism, but for black market things like drugs.

It's the prejudices so strongly present amongst lots of its members on this forum and in our society, it's such a sad thing.

What's the funniest thing of all of this, is that we as Armenians have first hand experience on what racism, prejudices, intolerance, ethnic and religious hatred can bring to the world, and while we are speaking and claiming for justice, for respect, for tolerance, for peace, you find a lot of the same people speaking words of prejudice and hate...we practice double-standards here.

You got any data for the BS you are telling? And what's next we are going to stop Italians from visiting Armenia because they could be mob members? And what about Georgians? There is more chance that they will smuggle drugs than Muslims. And what about the Russian and the Russian mob?
Are we only going to let Armenians enter Armenia?

I don't see many German & French tourists involved in criminal activity when visiting Armenia. Iranians not only are doing this drug business but are also trafficking girls. I don't want to see Yerevan turn into what many places in Germany have turned into as result of the Turks. Our border protection has to be more secure and we have to make sure these criminals do not enter our country. We also have to track down people like that from those countries and deal with them accordingly.

Armenia should crack down all crime and not like you were saying 'close the border for Muslims.' And in all of those businesses you will find Armenians working with those Iranians. So most of your ideas are BS because keeping the Iranians away will not change something we need to crack down the crime lords in the country first and make it so that every criminal regrets breaking the law in Armenia.
