I used to... day to day?
Umm.. you get to work if you're there for opening, they'll have some sort of security procedure where one person goes in to check everythiing and if they're not out by a certain time you call the police... lol

Umm... what you do can vary. You can be encoding tickets with account numbers, letting people into safe deposit boxes, or if you're lucky, you'll get to help xxxxxxx customers...

Which bank?

Hey, thanks for the input. It's a local bank here in NY. It's basicly retail banking. They have the personal representatives that try to sell you a checking account or CD, and the tellers that do teller stuff. You get the picture.
What do the managers do?

I'm trying to get into their management trainee program, and since I've never worked in a bank before I wanna go in there with guns blazing. (information wise)

Which bank? In the city? What happened to your career change ideas?

I'll find a way to make it all fit. But right now I want a year to think about it, while working.

That's a great idea, and while you are at it, don't forget to check your PM box. Where you offered a managerial position? From what I heard it's a very monotonous task, not much excitement or challenge.

If it's anything like retail management I can handle it. All jobs are boring. If you're fresh out of school like me it's no time to get picky.

Retail Management is awful. All jobs are not boring, it's a matter of whether you are doing something you feel passionate about. And every job offers a learning experience and a different outlook, doesn't mean you have to permanently commit yourself to them. But you are right, at this moment one cannot be very picky, the job market is still slowly recovering.

Depends on which manager... in the branch, the asst manager does operational stuff. Internal auditing, training tellers, reviewing/releasing holds, deciding which overdrafts to pay and which to return... that sort of thing.

The manager deals more with sales... trying to get big clients for the branch, handing complaints or problems with important clients that want the managers attention, making sure everyone's making their "numbers",etc
I dont know as much about the manager's responsibilites because I was closer w/ the asst. manager at the bank I was at.

It was one big happy family. I know the manager well too, but what she did wasnt as obvious to me as a teller/new accounts rep.

I wouldn't plan on getting into banking btw... Asst managers make like 35-40 on average. Peanuts for the amount of work, stress, and responsibility. It's hard to become manager and requires years and years of experience. They're the ones that make decent money (in the branch anyway) 100k+.

Just start your own bank. Obscene amount of work and near certainty of failure, but at least you'll be working for yourself, rather than someone else, and if you should succeed, you'll be fabulously rich. Besides, life is barely worth living if you don't take some big risks every now and then.

Aaah what a day. I went on the first interview with a human resource person last week. Passed that, made it to the second interview, with 3 district managers. It was more like an interrogation. They were a poker faced bunch.

There was good cop - making jokes and trying to get me to admit bad things about myself.

There was bad cop - total jackass couldn't get a smile out of him at all. He thought all my ideas were crap.

The woman - she was informative and neutral. I'm not sure what her role was. I guess she was the neutral approach.

I think I got canned, but you can never tell with these poker players. And that's is that. The beat goes on...

PS - Thanks Siggie. You were right about everything. :)

And they said having a career forum wouldn't get enough traffic. HA!

If you work at a branch, please post the schedules of the guard change, the locations of the video cameras and motion sensors, as well as the combination to the safe, please.

Edit: Oh, and don't forget the address of the branch.

Also please post how much money you have stored so I can do a cost/benefit analysis to see if it's worth robbing it.

I could live without the Car forum ANY day. It just sits there, with the occasional VTEC bro fanatic posting once in a blue moon. I say we replace the Car forum with a Career forum, like patlajan said. Getting tips on certain jobs has got be a tad bit more productive than pimple-faced teens bragging about their cars.

The career forum will be stupid and useless. The car forum is there to keep all of the car talk out of General Talk so it would not annoy the shyt out of those who could not care less. Or better yet, we can think of all possible topics of discussion and create forums accordingly; we will not need General Talk at all. The forum is functioning just fine. This has been the only career-oriented thread in a very long time and half of it was devoted to the idea of career-oriented threads.

This is a thread regarding banks and she has worked in banks. Do not insult someone who has more knowledge than you in this category. She was a genuwine employee at a sperm bank and now has been laid-off because she was once caught drinking on the job.

We had an insult forum. And that didn't do anything to prevent insults to occur outside of it.

What does a trite wench of your sort know about originality? All this because I complimented you? See I discovered it. You and that other monotone crone seem to be the victims of some free foliating hostility and comfort each other to take your minds off of any reminder of how tedious your futile existence is.

Um halfwit, that was the pun behind it. genuWINE and drinking. Just for that petty accusation you should be buried next to Reagan in the style you most deserve and desire: with your face to his crotch and in the position of a 69.
