I know I should be working right now, but I was just thinking about this while I was "working". My boss just called me and told me to pick up his dry cleaning. Now, I have done this before, but this time, I just felt like an idiot. Why the hell should I pick up his dry cleaning? However, I started thinking about how it's so much less of a headache to work for someone else, rather than owning my own business. I know it's almost everyone's dream to own their own business, but I don't think I would want to do that. There's so much risk involved, so much more work, and so much more stress. Why not just get yourself into a huge company, that provides good pay with full benefits instead? Let me know what you all think....

Would you rather have job security and work for someone else, or would you want to be your own boss and own your own business?

He is the Dusken, owner and janitor of Dusken's Donuts. It is patently clear that he prefers owning his own business.

I wouldn't mind owning my own business either, as opposed to working for someone else, like The Dusken.

Small business is a tough game. The failure rate is 50% and the hours are ususally very long. Since you're out there totally on your own, you're gonna be doing everything. And I mean everything.

To be a good small business owner/manager you're gonna have to work for a few years and learn about an industry and then go into it. Small business is not for the easily frightened. But if you succeed it's great. It all depends on the industry and how good your management skills are. (Among other things)

The success of an individual is directly proportional to their likeness to me.

I would love to have my own chocolate shop. Or coffee shop. Or both. I can conquer the world with chocolates and caffeine.

The difference with owning your own business is that if you do it right, you only have to work 80-hour weeks for 5-10 years, then you can either sell-out or delegate most of the responsibility to other people and reap the rewards. Plus, there is so much additional satisfaction involved when the success of the business is your success. Think of what you do as an employee. You work hard to make money for someone else, to contribute to someone else's success, so that they can give you a small percentage. Why not experience the success yourself, and be the person giving out the small percentage?

Very Ture!

It's hell for the first year, and then you get used to it, and the life, of going to work at 9 am and coming home at 9 p.m. Foget vacations, forget visiting firends and family.

And then it gets better after a year or two. You hire people to do your job, put your son/daughter as manager, and go and do something else.

100% correct!

And yes, the first year is hell, but is any decent paying job easy the first year? Most benefits like vacation don't kick in for a while, anyways. And the increased income will be MORE than worth it, rather than living paycheck to paycheck.

All I have to say is...."thank you, Mr. eBay creator!!!" :crying: <-- tears of joy

Mr. eBay creator

Now there's a man who's pulling in the dough.

Now there's a man who's pulling in the dough.

Yes, and he came up with the concept on a plane gonig to a business trip, and then set up the whole thing in one weekend. He is now worth over $40 billion!!

But I'm thanking him because, though his motives were his own personal benefit, he has allowed many others to make a living off of it, too. I am strongly thinking about joining those ranks. :D

I owned my own business for about 2 1/2 years and I can tell you that it's such a headache.

You constantly have to reinvent the direction your business is going towards. You have to worry about your customers needs. You have to keep an eye out on your employees. Agghhhh!!

Working under someone else isn't necessarily that bad if you enjoy your job and are following what you want to do as a career.

Why? Do you want to see if he's the right age for you to be Mrs. eBay creator?

Most people that marry into money do so because they're too lazy to make their own. Now how would they use the money they married into to make their own?

I think he's suggesting he'd use his wife's family's money to fund a business venture and hopefully capitalize on that if the business manages to turn a good profit.

I own a business, let me tell you i went from party animal to if im lucky i'll see my ppl once a month. Sure it's satisfying when your making money and you think up a new idea and it works just as planned. BTW i own a 'Avis rent a car' store in Toronto. But when your doing like 85 store hrs a week then your whole day is shot you sometimes doubt the pleasure of ataining goals. When i say store hrs that means 85 hrs only in the store, when you own your own business work doesn't stay @ work it follows you to church, bed, basketball even love life. Avis is everywhere i look AGHHHHHHHH just playin. Once you become your own boss and learn how to overcome obstacles it gets better and better. You become a problem solver, and with every problem you solve thats how much more your business will bloom.

Work for yourself. You will never get rich by working for someone else never. Even if you make 150,000k a year you still will not become rich. When your working for yourself the money for some reason stretches(sp) alot longer.

I so don't want my own business, it's a headache... I rather work for someone else, IF they pay me good that is :D Then again, I sometimes think about opening a business in Armenia hehe but we'll see... either way, gotta finish school first.

Dare I say your money seems to stretch when you work for yourself because you have no time to go out and have a social life, thus saving yourself a ton of money? :D

But now when i do go out once or twice a month im ballin baby. HAHAHA, im just screwing around. It all depends on the person. I personally expect myself to be rich, i don't see that happening by working for someone else. Honestly though im not sure how old you are ckBejug but their comes an age when your sick of clubbin, sick of screwing around. You just wanna settle down. Maybe im too young to think that way but i think i started earlier then everyone else so that contributes to my choice of lifestyle.

For me business owner is the only way to go. No, cash stretches farther cause everything is a tax write off for business owners. If your smart that is : )

I'd rather own a franchise.

Possibly a Quiznos.

All you gotta do is maintain inventory and reorder when needed, pay your employees, and take care of the store and customers. Let the cash flow come to you.. you know?

*Clenches fist* I'm almost there.
