Like most people, for a long time I believed Martial arts were just found in Asianic culturals, but I've come to realize there are such things as "Russian Martial Arts" and "Israeli Martial Arts" and some others, so I was just wondering... is there Armenian Martial Arts? Now that would be cool...

I wouldn't know much, but I have heard something about Armenian jiu-jitsu being very strong. Of course, it would have originated somewhere in Asia, but...um..yea...

There is this so-called "Martarvest" too. Which has the legendary "tiger dance". This includes almost all the self-diffence movements and is very fun to learn.

All martial arts are basicly the same. Now if you mean the tradition of martial arts then Chinese have everyone beat by a few thousand years. No use trying to catch up now. That's why Europeans invented guns. :naughty:

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is useless when you're out in a social setting. What are you gonna do, be on the ground trying control someone when his friends are all kicking you on the ground  . Some Muay-Thai is good for stand up. But if it is to be a one on one organized match then Brazilian jiu-jitsu would be my first choice but rarely are you going to be in that situation when you're in the streets.

How about Krav Maga? http://www.kravmaga.com/

Brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt omniscient is incorrect.

Muay-Thai is useless when you're out in a social setting. What are you going to do, stand and try to kick and elbow someone when his friends are all punching you in the back of the head? The best thing for a street fight with multiple opponents is body armor and a gun.

.IMHO

On the street BJJ is superior. Especially the non-guard type fighter who is aggressive and know how to slap arm locks or chokes on from any position. Factor in dirty tactics and BJJ is unstoppable.

As for stand up arts there is Boxing and of course Muay Thai is one of the very best stand up arts for the street and if there’s more than one opponent the Dutch style is very good.

Greco Roman and Wrestling get honorable mention. As stand alone arts they don’t work well enough but with someone who knows how to apply the art the right way its dangerous

Dark Horse honorable mention: Judo

Krav Maga is ok. It's got some nice techniques, and it's probably one of the few arts that teaches decent gun and grenade disarms.

I say Krav Maga is the best form of self defense for a street fight.

No one said Muy Thai is not good, but that is the misconception that all too often all Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is, is fighting from the guard.

I've tried Krav Maga also, I went to the national training center which is right in Los Angeles. Their instructors are certified by the Israeli Ministry of Education and includes expert, internationally recognized law enforcement defensive tactics instructors. I saw people like Green Berets who had killed several people with their hands alone. Anyway, I only went one time but I didn't get into it enough so I can't really say if I thought it was effective. For the most part the beginner level 1 class was more physical than technique.

And don't get me wrong Brazilian jiu-jitsu can be useful standing up since they also teach you how to take someone down to the ground from a standing position also, so it can be useful.

You contradicted yourself though. you're saying Muay-Thai is useless in a social setting but in the second paragraph you say for stand up there is Muay-Thai.

One thing I know is whenever you're in the streets or in a social setting you don't want to be on the ground no matter what. You want to be standing. Now of course you can be punching, elbowing, kicking, and still be getting hit on the head but I would rather get hit standing up then on the ground where is where you will stay if a few people catch you there. And I don't know about you but I don't think I'm going out in body armor anytime soon lol unless I've really lost it.

BTW, I've stopped going for almost 6 months now which I regret, got lazy and my place is far. I never ONCE got my instructor to tap out dammit  and I was a lot bigger than him too. Who do these black belts think they are :D .

I wish I had the Wrestling skills of Mark Coleman, and the submission expertise of Sakuraba, and the stand up of Chuck Liddel.

fighting is pretty much being able to dodge and hit. Chinese developed the best way to move your body, the understood the scientific qualities of strength and movement. When you look at things like who will Tai Chi vs mike tyson thats ridiculous. Tai Chi, and Chi Kung are the spiritual aspects of the body. Fighting is once again doing the best possible movement in any given situation, involving getting hurt or hurting others. Ju jitsu being submission moves, boxing being knockouts, etc etc. I beleive thers a way for any style to beat any other style. As for muay thai, isnt that jamaican dance fighting, come on dont make me laugh.

The best martial arts is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu . I challenge any man or women on this message board to a no holds barred street fight to prove my style is superior. I live in the Southern California area. Pick any social setting a club, elevator, phone booth, the beach etc...and I will meet you there. Until then practice your katas and punching the air. I'll practice a real self-defense system.

clubbin714 have you used your fighting system against a group of people or 1 on 1? Grappling is extremely effective when its a 1 on 1 situation (most 1 on 1 fights end up on the ground anyway) How is the your techinque used against a group?
