Which is a bigger field? Who makes more?
Graphic designers include art directors, illustrators, computer illustrators, etc. Animation includes computer animation (CGI), character design, etc.
I would assume Animation is a bigger field, yes? I would say there is and will be a bigger demand as technology in film evolves. We're using CGI in our films more, thus proving the field will expand.

Hmm... I dunno. While CGI might be increasing, any business that wants so much as a logo might hire a graphic designer.

So who has the better job? The graphic designer or the animator? Don't graphic designers make less, considering it's more freelance?

Graphic designer probably has the better job imo as they are working with static images instead of animations that require knowledge of 3DSM or Maya. By better job I mean the workload is probably not as pain-in the-arsey, and the salaries can be comparable at the mid level. Upper level animators/art directors both make decent $$.

Graphic Design baby!
It's all about advertising in magazines, journals, panels.... packaging all kinds of accessories; food... may include web design... and much more
It is way more vast area than animation, which is restricted to the web and TV screen ads. or movies.
Note that animators may need graphic designers to advertise their work too.
I've made my choice, things are going pretty well.

Sorry for the bump? There are rules and you seem aware of them. Nice start, buddy.
