  • Armenian influence on Georgian Architechture

    Hi all,
I was checking out some architechture as I have a profound love of the architechtural styles of different ethnicities, anyway I was checking out Georgian Architechture and it looks almost entirely Armenian in origin, I know Armenian Architechture predates the Georgians and there have a fairly large amount of Armenians living in what is present day Georgia particularly in Jakvakheti and I think that Sourb Mesrop Mashtots designed their alphabet as well, so what is the Armenian influence on the national architechture

More over has alot of this been taken from Armenians and labled Georgian

Excellent observation Pedro. This thread has more on the similarities between the Armenian and Georgian alphabets.

The most obvious of the Armenian influence on Georgian architecture can be found in the way the churches are designed, especially the top part. Perhaps Bell-the-cat could elaborate more on the connection between both architectures.

Re: Armenian influence on Georgian Architechture

What I got so far :

Armenian churches and Georgian churches both have conical domes and are made of basalt, usually the vaults and arches are very tall and elaborate with wide building construction, its built in a circular pattern in layout

Now this architechture style predates Georgian style, it started to my knowledge during St. Gregory's time, which is obviously before Georgian Christianity. I think the similarities have also made it very easy for Georgians to deface Armenian structures and call them Georgian
